I doubt that Ferrari Spa or the dealer has put that guy on a black list or something like that, because then most of the users of Ferrarichat should be on that list too and I suppose that´s not the case.

I agree with many of the responses. Dealer being jerky does not mean Ferrari being jerky. We have no idea if anyone or who pressured him to remove article. Regarding the original article, it is how the game is played, accept it or walk across the street. I don't like how the press cars and Harris were handled either, but again it is the game. I'm glad Jalopnik and users here can talk about it though.

    Dear Japolnik:

You're in business to spread crap and hate through your snarky "holier than thou" website for clever 14 year olds to make their own snarky comments to your snarky comments.

And you wonder why car forums and manufacturers hate you?

Grow a pair and stop whining. You made your bed.

An Fchatter wrote the original article. Perhaps he will chime in.

I'm glad Jalopnik and users here can talk about it too.

He's in Canada sooo all bets are off.. (hehehe Joking.. my wife is from Cambridge, ON)

Here in 'Merica we have a little thing called the First Amendment.

It supercedes Ferrari Sales contracts and much to the Ferrari's dismay it also supercedes their dictates.. if I wrote it, I'd tell them to step off and buy used FCars for the rest of my life.

If they warned me that I'd never have a new one as long as its published...

I might consider redacting it. ;)

Japolnik has a lot more balls than a lot of Auto Magazines and sites.

They also have a much bigger audience.

The guy was probably promised something if he retracted the article? Not sure he has the means to fork out for a new one anyway, so he could have just been tire kicking and thought he'd write about it anyway. Regardless, it's all good PR for F as it makes their product seem that much more elusive.

It doesn't take balls to make snide remarks in post after post just for the sake of others to feel free to throw flaming arrows.

Jersey Shore has a bigger audience than the news. That doesn't make them superior.

This latest post by them is just whining. "We've reached out to Ferrari and are yet to hear a comment." No S$$t sherlock! Did you really feel you would get one with a title photo like this? See your credibility? You just tossed it out the window.

There is not ONE FACT in any of their post on this -- only their rumor mongering and speculation. "What gives?" they ask. Yah... what gives.

Wow. Auto journalism at it's best.

Truth is a lot different than whining.

The statement that you cited is proper journalism. You give someone the chance to comment and if they don't you report that.

    What you're doing is whining.

Their article asks a very important question.

    Why was this article retraced?

Ah... a good question. Maybe if they actually FOUND OUT WHY first, it might be journalism.

If you just say "what gives", then it's rumor mongering.

There is no truth in "What gives?"

I've heard the President of the United states likes to screw dogs. "What gives?" Show me it isn't true. If you can't, then I'm free to publish it.

    NOT.

I've heard Apple is about to go bankrupt. "What gives?" Should we go on?

They love to be a troll sight. Well, let them. But, at the same time they have no reason to whine that they don't get any respect from manufacturers.

    Nope.

Good Journalists, as they did, give Companies a chance to explain or comment, Ferrari did neither and they reported that fact.

Personally I find it very troubling that Ferrari didn't respond or comment.

In a court of law you have the right to remain silent.

In the court of public opinion that is rarely a good idea.

Jim... let's say some troll sight said all kinds of terrible things about one of your investment companies over and over. Would you feel you needed to respond to every stupid rumor and post? Is that how you want to spend your day? Chasing trolls?

There's one person who can say what happened -- the person who asked for the retraction--- NOT Ferrari. Ask him what happened and then make a case.

Too bad Japlopnik decided it was a personal attack on them FIRST, even though no one said it was. Ferrari did not ask Jalopnik to take it down. That much at least they admit. Yet, it's a conspiracy to get back at them?

I had a similar case last year when a website attacked one of my items completely unfairly on a Friday before a holiday weekend. By the time we could respond, it was all over the news.

I showed them that they were completely WRONG on every single aspect and that this "group" not only had the wrong facts but in fact where just in it for their own benefit.

I made a press release on Monday. Do you think anyone carried it? Do you think the group printed a retaction? Forget it.

Where do I go to get my credibility back?

Sorry, I cannot stand this kind of yellow journalism which is worst of all within websites.

There's not one Fact here. It's rumor mongering. It's wrong.

    It's not rumormongering at all.

A Ferrari Chatter wrote a piece and published it.

He asked Japolnik to publish it.

He talked about it on Ferrari Chat and other forums.

Suddenly with no expiation what so ever he unpublished it and asked others to unpublish it.

I think it is a very legitimate journalistic question to ask why this happened.

I also think it's proper journalistic ethical practice to ask the Company if they wish to comment and note if they don't.

I think the photo they used was apt.

    Ferrari is fiddling.

Sorry Jim but you are just plain wrong here.

It's a fair question to ask. It's not a fair question to suggest there was some coercion that "Ferrari is behind this".

There's not one shred of evidence to even suggest it. It's "What gives?"

Go find your facts... then report your "outrage". Otherwise Jalopnik, shut up because your troll-ness is showing.

The reason why Jalopnik has balls is because they dont make the news/create any content for 99% of their published material. It's all made by users who love sarcasm who send them the latest OMG WTF photo/forum thread/question of the day.

If they had to go out like Autoweek/Top Gear/Sport Auto/EVO and have a relationship with car manufacturers, their balls would shrink faster than a GTR can reach 60 mph.

Also they are not always right in what they right. In this case, they say Ferrari is so bad you cant keep all their cars at your home which is total BS and just prove they dont know much.

That article also had some BS in its history (ordering a Modena in 2008...) so it makes you wonder what is true and what is not. Also the response overall was that EVERY car dealer has their bad people who will not give you the time of the day...

Suggesting a possibility and stating something was fact are two different things. Jalopnik merely made a hypothesis that something was behind this sudden change by the author, and it just might be Ferrari itself. So? And honestly, I would guess they are correct. The entire thing smells of coercion, whether it be Ferrari SpA, or the dealership, we do not know.

But what are your facts that this is not the case?

    And Jalopnik a troll? Hardly.

It appears you possibly did not like the article because you just might be overly smitten with the name Ferrari. I too am smitten by the name Ferrari, but I find the direction that LdM has taken the company to be anti-customer. I would have written that article also if that situation happened to me. Sadly, the original story verbalized a complaint one hears and probably has experienced much too often about most Ferrari stores in the USA. Fortunetely, I live mid way between two Ferrari stores that appreciate their customers beyond imagination.

Nevertheless, read what you are writing. JG is making factual points, you appear to be in denial. Seriously, no intent to put you down, but you are denying facts. And the possibility of truth.

Oh, excuse me... this is waste matter from a cow and you know it.

Maybe someone should find out FIRST before stating theories and junk. Is that too much to ask?

George Bush funded 9-11!!!! In fact, he trained the pilots himself! Even better one of the hijackers was his brother-in-law. There... I said it!! Why hasn't this been published before? It must be coercion.

Do I have any facts? Oh, please... you go find out for yourself. My job is only to state things that might be. It's YOUR job to find out if it's true or not.

    Give me a break.

Sorry but I really hate these cut and run web articles that only state rumors and are there to only dig up trolls. That's what this is about -- trolling.

    Mr. Mayor,

    I agree with you 100%.

My additional thoughts: Why do they even think Ferrari would have the time or inclination to answer every random rumor Jalopnik publishes? Why does Jalopnik even think manufacturers have enough respect for them anymore to even acknowledge them, much less respond to them?

There is a reason that celebrities don't routinely respond to National Inquirer stories...with the exception of Tom Cruise :roll eyes:

Finally, whatever response Ferrari gave would only fuel the fire, give credibility to Jalopnik and keep the story alive.

    Just my .02.

Actually, you are, sir. I'm familiar with the situation, but it's not my place to disclose the details.

Jalopnik doesn't have any more information because they don't. Simple as that.

    In the meantime, stay tuned.

I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that the First Amendment (and the whole Constitution for that matter) is a schedule of limits of Government Power. i.e. The Government cannot persecute you for your speech. The First Amendment has no bearing whatsoever on contracts between two willing parties, like a Ferrari Sales contract. (People sign non-disclosure agreements all the time, and are penalized for violating them).

I don't even think a sales contract is even in play here (he didn't buy a car after all), but I *think* (again, not a lawyer here) Ferrari is within their rights to deny him whatever they want if they don't like what he said.

Not that that's the right thing to do...
