I do not think that should be allowed. So what is it, you talk to LH for a few hours and you know everything about F1? That would be a bad move for the sport...
Who cares. He won't be competitive with the likes of McLaren, Ferrari, BMW, etc. Another mid fielder working as a rolling advertisement. At least it will get more exposure to F1 in the US so I think it would have a positive effect state-side.
So what if he is a rapper. He may or may not know much about F1 but he seems to have a pretty good grasp for business from what I have read. I don't think he can do any worse than a few of the other teams the have went under over the years or sold out to avoid bankruptcy. Who knows maybe he will surround himself with some decent talent and build a pretty good team.
LH's article stating he wants never to leave McLaren should make this interesting: McLaren gets a ban.... Diddy offers LH all the $$ to jump to his new team.... Film at 11!
We already have to deal with fox's coverage of three races which is three to many. But hey, Sato always needs some competition.
What a turd. He doesn't have the money to buy much less build and fund a whole F1 team. None of the quality drivers will race for him because he couldn't afford to pay them what they wanted. If he liquidated every thing he has he could fund one for a few years tops, then he would be broke. F1 is not a cheap sport, while advertising does pick up some of the cost there is still considerable cost to the owner. He might be able to buy part of one, but not a whole team and none of the good teams would want anything to do with him. I really hope he does buy a whole team though, he will finish in the back of the grid every race and everyone will laugh at him. There is no possible way he would be able to keep up with large teams like Ferrari, Renault, Mclaren or Williams just to name a few. If he races I will laugh loud and hard for days because he will most likely hype it up only to be shut down and sent back to the US with his tail between his legs.
P Diddy in F1 would be a great thing. He would being F1 into mainstream America. He's also a savvy businessman and I think he could pull it off. Let's face it - being in F1 isn't so much knowing about F1 and engineering, etc. It's about being a good manager and a good salesman. The rest is talent you can hire. I would LOVE to see a fresh face team in F1 that has panache, allure and brings excitement to the sport. He may also foster and showcase some under-represented black talent - that would be a plus too. Let's hope he does it!
Name any other team that competes in F1 that keeps up with those four consistantly in the last 5 or 6 years. Yet there are teams that keep going like red bull which has funded 2 teams. He is not a Dumb Rapper. He actually has a good head for business and if he don't have the funds I don't think he would have a hard time digging up people willing to invest. It would probably be good for F1 think of of the publicity it would get in America. Bernie can say whatever he wants but you know he would love to gain more popularity here the states. I don't think it would be a bad move for F1 but as stated before it is hard to make it unless you are 1 of the top tier teams. So looking at that way it could be a very costly move for P Diddy.
If he can find the money, I'd say go for it. Give Spyker some competition (At least, poor guys always in the back) and perhaps draw some American audience. Really, I'd love to see this and how it ends up.
No, not that much. He would probably buy a McLaren customer chassis anyway if/when he enters into the picture. Should makes things a little cheaper.
I don't really care if he buys an F1 team. With that said, I don't think he would fully purchase a team. I could see him buying a hefty share of Prodrive for 2008, though. Who knows, this could bring some serious publicity for F1 in the United States. This isn't the first time an American has wanted to get serious in F1. Malcom in the Middle star Frankie Muniz is hoping to land a seat in GP2 next year and hopefully make the move to F1 sometime. http://www.formulaf1.com/2007/06/22/malcolm-in-the-middle-to-gp2/
The last two years i was at the USGP i saw him at least twice. Once crossing the bridge, the other in his pits.
I doubt he can bring popularity of the sport to the US because I doubt that anyone in the rest of the F1 world would take him seriously. Am I the only one who finds the thought of a P.Diddy F1 team completely ridiculous?!?!?!
That would be awesome!!! HIs worth is definitely not a billion dollars. I watched a Forbes show and it was more like $300 million I believe, so an F1 team would really get him strapped. I would love to see how he would do. He could probably bring some serious parties to F1 for a couple years before he became broke, and no longer the P Diddy everyone knows.
