As requested: my cowboy hat!

One advantage among the many advantages one has with the Mondial is head room. I mentioned I wear my cowboy hat with easy comfort driving the 3.2 like a cowboy. Someone asked me to photo the hat and here it is. Bought it many many years ago in Houston. So its legit!.

I found the center cap but have not super glued it on yet! It fell off last Winter on cold night and I put it in a safe place till the weather warmed which means I could not find it. It was under the oil filter I bought for the MAXX! I intended to oil change the MAXX but did not get around to it but had new wheels installed and had them change the oil. Accordingly the oil filter remained where I had placed it.

Now I need to put the center cap back on! Thanks for reminding me! Incidentally, a couple of the wheels shed their paint in unsightly ways so I bought a spray can of 101 Argento Metallic for the touch up. Bought a pack of playing cards to stick between the tires and rim and just spritz the bad spots. Did not even feather out the edges since I planned on a complete repaint this Summer.

But they look good enough as-is for street use so have not done it. The next set of tires I plan to get some after market 17" rims and move from a 55 aspect ratio to a 45 aspect ratio. I have the same Continental ExtremeContact Summer DWs on both the Mondial and the MAXX. The 45s on the MAXX are a noticeable improvement.

One problem is these tires are going to last longer then the 6,000 miles on the Pirellis. I already have about 5,000 miles on the Continentals and they are only about half worn down. Perhaps I need more drifting through corners?

 

Hi! My computer would not display your link but I can make an educated guess. Long Horn cattle front ornament per chance? As for ten gallon hats I have only a 5 gallon head and would not be able to see out the front of the car, even if the hat would fit into the car. But that is mere speculation.....

 

Damn! I keep ordering them one after the other thinking I misplaced them. INSIDE the car. Who woulda thunk it In fact, this very morning when I took that photo I got in to drive off with it on the roof. The only reason I did not drive off was because while moving the car towards the road got some different light and got out to take another photo. WHERE IS MY HAT!

I looked this morning before I took the photo hoping it was a Stetson. Its not. I was a cheap skate back then as much as I am now. Now I wish I had sprung for The Real McCoy! I took a closer look at the interior of the hat and it is a quality piece. Finely stitched with high quality satin liner with interior bow but no Stetson logo.

 

If I had a horse instead of a Ferrari would it be Texas style? You know, from True Grit: Rooster Cogburn to Texas Ranger "When are you guys going to stop riding sheep!" Or some such. There has always been an issue with durability versus size. The Mongols rode what we might call Ponies!

One nice thing about driving a Ferrari, ANY Ferrari is no one ever asks you about your 'other car'.

 

Rob. I just can not keep my hands off the Ferrari. A few weeks ago I stashed it in my lower car port intending to drive it on weekends only. But it needed a wax so moved it up to the house 'carriage way' [wonderful 12ft high 30ft long and 20ft wide carport - its why EYE agreed to buy the house!].

The inevitable has happened. Instead of waxing it I drive it. BEER RUNS. Always the long way. Always the rumbly well paved back roads with all sorts of sub 50mph curves and full throttle second and third gear exists. At this rate I will need a third set of tires before I do a proper detail appearance job. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.....

 

Is that a STRAW hat? If so I am now envious ....

 

Speaking of Mexico? Have have some wonderful Iquana Skinned cowboy boots I bought, I believe, in Costa Rica. I have them nicely oiled but they are only broken in. But I love them. I will see if I can get a photo!

 

The uppers are not white as these photos show but a deep cream colored. They fit perfectly which means they are hell to get on and off.

PS! But this is the first time I have taken close look at them! They are some sort of FAKE!. At first they seem well matched left to right then you look close and they are IDENTICAL left to right.This does not happen in nature. They are well made of some sort of high quality something, fit perfectly and only cost $250. Fooled me for nigh on five years. And will fool everyone who probably will ever look on them in the future.

Yes I have and they are entirely driver friendly. In fact, the tight [proper] fit, hard leather sole [improbably] and the stiff sides make for a tighter shifting left foot! I will wear them to the trivia contest tonight. Its time I start 'stepping out' a bit more. They are very nice boots.

I am 'into leather' but not in the Time Square sense of the word. In fact, I have a deerskin jacket made in a craft shop near my hometown in Ohio out of game hunted deer. I do not say buckskin because they do not seem to be provided separately. This one does not have drip drying fringes, but I am told dear skin is not damaged by rain. I wear it a lot and it gets wet without effect. It often gets curious compliments.

Back in the old days while living in Germany I bough a fantastic hirsch leather zipper jacket I subsequently left at a restaurant. On the other-hand I like bargains as well. Found an Italian Perillo Duffel jacket in Florence on the back wrack that is swell. But my favorite is an elegant zipper jacket with all black heavy leather all matching fine grain with an almost swade feel. It was in a deep deep discount leather shop because one of the stupid huge shoulder pads had fallen down into a sleeve. I simply removed BOTH pieces and it drapes like silk.

Problem with that jacket is I have no place to wear it. Like perhaps casual at the Opera? WHAT opera, in the N. Georgia Mountains! Oh well.
