Yes they are modern compounds and XWXs on are a no brainer in an OHOS. And they’re certainly not crap, the suspension was set up with those tyres in mind not Chinese cheapskate tyres

I've owned 2 of that series SL. XWX were not the OE tyre, MXV were.

This is a very good tyre for your classic, TWI of 180, made in France, what's not to love? A bit more variety in terms of sizes than the XWX:

FFS I was just making a comment -You might end up on the ground the way you are going !

 

And I was at the factory when my business partner took delivery of a new 280SL in 1977. It was definitely not on XWX's.

W107 280 SL were not fitted ex factory with with XWX, only the V8s.
