The most desired students among applicants and the most desired law students in recruiting are ones with hard science and engineering backgrounds. Patent and intellectual property law is the hottest sector right now, kids with biochem undergrads could probably cold call any law firm and say, "I'll start on Monday. Have an office ready."

But, instead of being a patent lawyer, I would suggest using your engineering background to invent some new widget, valve, etc. and then just hire a patent lawyer to get you coverage... then market your product and become a centimillionaire.
