They just opened up where I live and was wondering if they're any good. I go to a private local dentist, that charges around 60$ for a cleaning. They reccomended that I get a cleaning every 4 months. I've been with them for around 2 years, and was wondering if a franchised-out denistry will be any good. They are offering free exams and x-rays now though. Should I switch or stay with my local dentist?

Anything with the word "Aspen" in it sounds like it will be expensive. If your current guy isn't trying to hose you with up sells all the time then I'd stick with him.

    Stay whith your local dentist.

Most of those big clinics are just full of dentists that are just out of school and they come and go. We were even told to stay away from them when I was in school because they would just eat us up. I worked in one for 6 months before I quit back in 1996 because I needed a job which is why most dentists work in one to begin with.

In my educated opinion with first hand experience in both arenas, you are FAR better off staying where you are.

Word on the (dental) street is that it is a "mill." If you want cheap and don't care about service, then go there. If you want personal service and attention to detail (and see the same people working there each time).... stick with a private care solo practitioner.

I hear this question frequently. If you value the ability to call your dentist on the weekend with an emergency, and he calls you back, then stay away from the "mills". If you have had extensive treatment, periodontal or restorative, stay with your GP.
If you get your haircut at a $7.00 establishment and you never see the same person twice, then Aspen will probably meet your expectations.
If you drive a F-Car, enjoy a nice meal on the weekends, work out , watch your diet and generally take care of yourself, stay with your dentist.
Every week, I have patients who leave my practice to see a dentist "on their plan". The majority return to my practice 6 months later. Sadly, sometimes with an inferior quality of treatment ( usually only 1-2 teeth), that I have to fix. Stay with your GP, this isn't chevychat.com.

Ha! That pretty much sums it up! :) Dentistry isn't a commodity. It's a service. And, MOST times, like with anything else, you get what you pay for.
