Going to snowboarding in Aspen for a week. We are staying at 5th avenue condos. My friends and I are double black boarders but this is our first time to Aspen. We usually go on 2 trips each winter, typically Whistler and Utah (Canyons, Snowbird, Snowbasin). Any advice on trails to hit, places to eat, nightlife would be greatly appreciated.

^Thanks for the advice. Whistler is great. It's a direct flight into Vancouver from HI, 2 hour drive to the mountains. 2 worldclass mountains right next to each other and the new Peak-to-Peak tram connects the top of Whistler and Blackhomb. I scored phenomenal waistdeep powder at Spanky's Ladder and epic runs off the Peak. The terrain parks are fun. The village itself is great, nice restaurants (Chinese, Korean, sushi, fine dining, gastropubs, etc.), fun bars, grocery stores, movie theaters, nice hotels (Delta Lodge or Cascade Lodge for example). I've gone a half dozen times.

The only complaint is the snow can be slushy because of the proximity to the ocean. If it's warm, you may need to take the tram down to the base. Sometimes it's a bit foggy. The snow in Utah is far superior but everything Whistler has to offer within walking distance more than makes up for it.

I was a bit disappointed in Whistler BC because of the warmer weather and fog on the lower half of the mountain. We ended up only skiing the top 30% of the mountain. Only one semi sunny day in 2 week long trips. The low elevation really prevents it from having the light fluffy snow that Utah and Colorado have. Mike Weigel heli- skiing and CMH are way to go skiing in Canada--am amazing experience.....

Brah, are you talking about the 39 degrees lounge at the Sky Hotel? That place is supposed to be off the chain.

There is a program called "First Tracks". Get to the mountain before 8 and the guides will show you some amazing stuff.

Be careful. Avalanche danger is VERY high.

There are so many great places to eat. Can you be more specific as to what you are looking for?

What's the charge for First Tracks at Aspen? We have a similar program here in Vail, but I can't recall the cost. Not inexpensive, though.

BTW, PnH, I bought the 4-day pass to Aspen. I'm hoping to make it over there for a weekend or two. Any I should avoid here on out?

I have no idea what it costs. Rarely get up and going b4 10 AM. But if I were a visitor and wanted to maximize my experience, I would try it once and see how I liked it. When you live here and can ski every day I am very picky about what days I ski. Must be good weather, good snow, etc. We rarely have crowds as we are too far from Denver to get day skiers or weekend skiers. Between Xmas and New Years usually one of the busiest times here. 3 day weekends can be busy as well. Nobody here now. Life is good.

The pass only works for the remainder of the season, so are there any big events scheduled that I should know about? As in avoid?

    Thx,

We had a great trip. Stayed five minutes from lift in aspen on mill street. Boarded six days split between aspen and snowmass. Three days of powpow. Couldn't get reservations at cash cash or matsuhisa so we had the usual Mexican and gastropub fare. I never saw so many high end stores such as prada and zegna in a ski town lol. I even saw a skier with Chanel goggles haha.
