I have a 2001 550. Here's the scenario. I drive the car a short distance and turn it off. When I try to restart the car 10 minutes later, the Slowdown/Drive Careful/ASR flashes up on the display and the car won't start. When I leave the car for 1 hour, it starts up immediately. Not sure if it's because it cooled down or ??

It's done it a couple of times now. Is it possible it's a battery problem? Or???

"Slow Down" relates to the cats being too hot, ASR relates to the traction control. As these are not related I suspect your ECU is acting strangely.
Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes with a cold engine, then reconnect, start the engine and let it idle for 10 minutes before going for a drive. This will reset the ECU.

If that doesn't work, it's probably worth checking the connectors on the ECUs for corrosion on the pins. There are two, one in each footweel, behind the panels just in front of the doors.

Hi Stefano, I tried pulling the ECU plug out today but couldn't get it to come off entirely. I undid the screw at the bottom and lifted the silver latch but, no luck. Am I missing something?
