Be sure you have some time before you embark upon this journey. This site has a lot of content and loads slowly. There is just a bunch of assembly line media here; lots of it is Ferrari and some of that is 308. Videos dispersed throughout...

    enjoy,

    Rick

Interesting period pictures. That one photo of the 308 GT4 and GTB and others show the radical styling differences between Bertone and Pininfarina. Bertone was the epitome of the wedge shape penned by Marcello Gandini. Pininfarina, I believe, prevailed in terms of the continuity of world class design over the long haul while Bertone is more of a punctuation of certain peak periods. Bertone was never as central to design as Pinin', but had tremendous period pieces. Those being primarily the Miura and Countach, both Gandini designs. The whole wedge thing was ushered in by a single car, the Bertone Carobo, based on the Alfa Tipo 133.

Was this a painting process or just a cleaning process? I would think if it were paint then there would be alot of runs. Perhaps they brought the car out slowly enough to leave the paint even?

    Fantastic photos TazandJan!!!

Thanks for sharing those! Personally, I cant look at photos of cars at the factory like that and not wonder if its another FChatters car - or even my own.

There is a great book about the factory:

    Ferrari - Das Werk
    Ein Blick hinter die Kulissen

    by Michael Dregni

Yes, it is in German, but has tons of pictures and plans. All in chronological order from the beginning to the present.

    Taz,

those pics are awesome. And I wonder whether that white 308 with Boxer trim belongs to one of our FChatters here...

Anyone notice in the 4th picture down the 308 GTSqv has a red dash and armrests(highly unusual!!!). Pretty sure it's leather.

Proof that Ferrari would do anything a customer requested for $$$$ and this car would do a Concours judge's head in!!! I know leather dashes in differing colours were available on 328's but haven't seen a factory custom job on 308QV's

    Great Pics. Taz, Outstanding!!!

In Bluemel's book there are pictures of special orders. Not that long ago there was a QV in gold with a brown leather dash for sale by a dealer in Ft. Lauderdale.

Early Ferraris, like my 1978 GTS, had horrible rust problems and I ended up replacing both door panels that had rusted completely through. In 1982/83, Ferrari developed an anti-rust treatment that was actually licensed by Ford for use on a much larger scale. I believe that is what the photo is showing.

25175 shown below. Euro, no A/C, factory 285 hp engine (cams and jetting). Doors were rusting in this photo, because I threw those mirrors away when the door skins were replaced and drove it with no external mirrors for 18 months or so. Good practice looking over your shoulders for a fighter jock. At our favorite pub with wife in background and no outside mirrors.

Nice photos Terry including the 83 Maranello tour.

    I still like the 308's though, my first F car was a 1978 308GTS

Very cool. Tifosi12 pointed out the white/black 308 in several of the pictures. Looks suspiciously like my car! Two problems though, the car in the pictures seems to have a tan interior, mine's black and my car has a build date of February '84.
