Super quick question here. How much will non OEM wheels effect the value of a Ferrari? Steering wheel?

FWIW, I'm looking at an 87 328 GTB this Sunday. Private Seller. He has what appears to be a nice car but it is missing the OEM wheels and steering wheel. I've not done a search to asses the cost of replacing these yet.

The steering wheel is no longer available as far as I know, although the MOMO Monte Carlo is very similar and is ~$200.

The factory 328 rims are available from Ferrari UK. The exchange rate keeps changing the prices, so you'll need to contact them for current details.

If you can get pics and the last 5 digits on the VIN, I'd appreciate the details.

    thanks

The GTS is also an 87. The last 5 are 69327. I am going to take a look at it tomorrow. The GTB is as of yet unseen. Again, its a private seller. I'll see what I can do for you as far as pictures and VIN go.

Maybe I mis-stated the question or maybe you did answer it but not like I was expecting. How much do these two items, wheels and steering wheel, devalue the car? As in, do I simply subtract the cost of replacing them from the asking price or does the fact that the car no longer has the parts it left the factory with seriously devalue it? If so, by how much? (5%, 10% maybe?)

Just subtract what it would cost to buy the parts now. It is not a vintage car so the fact that the wheels and steering wheel are not the same exact ones that came with the car should not affect the car's value. Model year, GTB, mileage, condition, and service history are the most important factors for the model you are considering.

Won't that just encourage the vendor to deliver the car on blocks and without a steering wheel !

Pay attention now Jimmie.;) The poster was asking how much the value of non-original wheels etc... would be affected. I think the seller would still deliver a complete car.

Those are minor issues. Easily replaced, especially wheels with OEM. I have seen and bought an original steering wheel on e-bay for my 348. So they are available. I did also buy 328 wheels and tires off e-bay for my then 308 a couple of years ago.

IMHO should not detract from value. You can sell after market wheels and recoup some of cost of replacements. It should not be a deal breaker. If I were the seller I would not subtract cost of either unless you were taking the car without steering wheel or wheels/tires.

I would be more worried about service history, overall appearance, and mechanicals. If it's otherwise a nice car, but it and replace wheels. You might even like the aftermarket wheels better than OEM.

WOW, I am seriously impressed now! All that info from the VIN? Thats fantastic! Yes, that GTS is on the lot at a dealer here in town. He is letting me swing by to learn more about the 328 and sit in it for a little while. He is asking $54k for it as it sits. This is NOT the car missing the OEM wheels and steering wheel. That is a GTB I am going to see Sunday.

I see where everyone is going with this thread. Basicly, its no big deal. However, would it not affect the value further on down the road or are these never to be seen as "collector" cars?

    Thanks again!

The steering wheel/road wheels aren't number-matched to the car or anything like that. Buy the OEM stuff and throw it in the attic, just in case the next owner wants it when you sell.

All V8s are unlikely to become high-dollar collector cars, there's just too many of them. Then again, who would have figured on Dino key fobs and pouches becoming 4 digit items?
