I'm thinking this will be the Vanquish replacement and be some kind of hard-core, F430 - Gallardo runner. Aston doesn't seem to have an answer to the 599 GTB in the pipeline.

Casino, my friend, you're smoking something with that comment. It's a warmed over/pumped up DB9- handsome but lazy from a design perspective.

The 599 is work of art, and you remember how critical I was of the first photos/drawings.

Cavallini. I will concede you are correct. Another look at the photo leads me to agree with your comment (interestingly, I feel the 430 is a similar design 'pump-up' of the 360..). I still feel however that the 599 is not a particularly pretty design. It will perform magnificently I am sure...but I do not like many of it's design details. The DB9 however is about the most beautiful shape on the road.

If I want to look at Aston Martins, I'll visit another forum or look in the "boats/motorcycles/cars" section.

The mods have really been slacking lately.

If this is official, I would say that it looks ok but that angle is not doing the car justice. Looks to short to carry the miriad lines down the car. Also the front fascia is hideously busy. I mean the sig. aston grill above a giant gaping hole flanked by multi finned intakes on the sides?? Who drew this? A high school kid?

Having said that, if you remove the extranious lines, you are left with essentually a DB9 or Vantage... Sooo where do we go from here?

They are filming the new Bond movie in the Bahamas right now as we speak. I hear it's a throwback to the 50's and he's driving a vintage DB5.

I was expecting a new Aston, but maybe not if it's retro-50's.

I, too, agree with you about the 430 being a pumped up 360, whereas the CS looks a beautiful crescendo to the 360s lines, not at all pumped up.

But you really must promise to tell us/me what you think of the 599 when you see it in the flesh, hopefully without the pentagram wheels which truly diminish, detract from the agrression and fluid tension of the design. Althought they are very traditional Ferrari- F40, 288GTO, 308, 328 etc.

Have you see the photoshopped pics of the 599 with five spoke wheels? The difference is astonishing. There's a good one on the last page of the official 599 thread.

    Tell me what you think.

This pic is from Aston, no photo-shop. I don't like the DB9 it's wooden, bland and under cooked. The last thing the marque needs is another big coupe. The 599 will eat it alive; I have no doubt of that. I had a laugh at this, apparently the new James Bond actor "doesn't do gears" and couldn't drive the manual DB5, so they've had to put an auto 'box in it!!!

I promise to be objective about the design when I see it in the flesh. At the moment, it looks rather 'bulbous', messy and lacking in coherence, from front to back.

I believe it is now official that Aston has topped Porsche as the laziest design studio in the automotive world. At least they look good when they're all the same, not a fleet of Azteks... :p getting old though.

    Doesn't look real though.

The name Aston Martin has something Ferrari can never have, Class.

Even with ford owning it, they still can't f*** that up.

As much as i love Ferraris, i would have an Aston anyday.

Anybody can get one with a discount(which says something about their desirability),they all are just clones of one original design, stuck for years in the same ,originally beautiful mold and their performance(across the line) vs any other performance car (from BMW through MB to Ferrari,Porsche etc) is at best mediocre.
The only reason I bought one was because my wife liked the looks of the Volante and it put me on top of the list for the Fcar.
The depreciation on it though, will probably be more then the potential premium if bought the Ferrari outright.

What planet are your from? LMAO!

Ferrari has defined class, beauty, performance, and passion for the last 40 years. The DB9 is the first Aston that could ever be favorably compared with a Ferrari in terms of beauty and elegance, to say nothing of class. When the engine starts, however, the Aston out-classed, thoroughly.

The car that is being shown looks a lot like the DB9 with some tweaks to the front fascia and the sides. However, the sktech that is shown to be James Bond's next car looks to be of a different creature entirely.

Especially if you look at this pic of the DB9, I am pretty sure that the photo in the first post is a chop.

As for the Aston versus Ferrari debate- I really do think that Aston has stepped up their game in the recent years. Their (VH?) modular platform and design scheme is really helping them out with production. I definately think Aston is much more conservative design-wise while Ferrari is trying to move along the road so-to-speak. To be honest I think the Rapide concept would be a good avenue to go down- its a place that Ferrari will (probably) never go, and Aston could really make a splash.

Where Aston is really starting to lag behind Ferrari is in the performance departments. Ferrari's engine technology, aerodynamics, increasingly good interior design, chassis and brake performance are quickly putting them far ahead of Aston Martin. I really dont think Aston Martin has it in them to reliably make a 600-hp V-12. Maybe if they pull a lot of tricks from their DBR9, but in my mind, I think the 599 is far beyond the current technological reach of Aston Martin.
