I have owned Lotus, Porsche, Maserati, Ferrari, etc. I have never owned an Aston Martin and am considering the purchase of a 2002 V12 Vantage. Any information on the car, ownership, driving experience, etc. would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Scott

For the same money, look at the DB9. After long debate, I passed, mainly because I couldn't see myself having as much fun in the car as the 550, and having both cars is silly (too similar in purpose).

I'd be very hard pressed to buy a Vanquish over a DB9. DB9 has better looks (imo), no parts sharing (aston interior, door handles, etc. is straight out of the XK8), a wholly brand new car built in a brand new facility, a better torque curve than the Vanquish, an immeasurably better transmission, better visibility, a gorgeous interior (mine was specced black/black with grey stitching and dark wood with the Linn stereo - very very sharp), OH - and the best part of all: a warranty.

I'm sure sfumato has some insights here as well, as I believe he passed on his option as well.

The 550 is a great car but I like the looks of the Vantage better as well as the craftsmanship. I am looking at the Vantage, not the Vanquish. A similiar year Vantage is also a lot less $$ than the 550 although the 550 will probably hold its value better.

i have owned a db7 vatnage for over 1 1/2 years now. i bought the car with 17,xxx miles and now ave over 23, xxx miles. i have owened the car for 2 1/2 years. the the total i have spent on maintence/repiar is around $2k. the car has been great so far as reiability and performance. honestly, aston martin has taken care of items outside of warranty. i fi had the opportuity to buy a new car from them again , i would do so. dealing with aston martin has been a pleasure (compared to a normal dealer). i have been overly impressed with thier attitidue towards quailty and care. if i was in the market for a new new car, iu would not hesiate to deal aston martin again!!!!

I saw a DB9 on the road the other day, Gorgeous ! Then I went to the AM dealer & saw 1 parked next to a Vanquish & the DB9 looked a lot like the Vanquish. DB9 is coming out as a convertible next year :)

I still am 1st on list for DB9 Convert, due june? july? I think it is gorgeous, but I wanted more room for my children, which it doesn't seem to have. I left deposit down, as it should be a hot item, but I doubt it is a keeper. I have a 575SA coming as well, and although it is not as pretty, it will prob stay with us for awhile. I have no idea what convert to get for the kids to ride in, as nothing fits. Bentley's new convert is old tech Arnage, not Continental for now, so that is pointless. 911, Benz, BMW have nada that will suit.
LMK on db9...I have 10k deposit since '03 on 1st delivered convert @ sticker. Specs still open. 25k gets the spot+deposit, net 15k...they'll bring more than that I'd bet.

I think they're MSRP abound. That's the offer I've gotten on db9, manny and convert.

Where did you get the info on the Bentley convert? I have a deposit on the cont. convert and it is supposed to be about a year (at the most, but who knows) off. My dealer says it is coming and there is no new news about it.

That worries me...anything that good looking should bring more $ than some of the other dreck out there. I saw DB9 go for 15 over on evilbay, seemed legit.

Bentley showed Arnage convert @ LA show. Sorry, but the dealers don't seem to have a clue here. Makes sense, though, as they don't have enough capacity to build the Conti and the Conti sedan now, will prob build some in Dresden @ VW Phaeton plant, since that car is withering on lots everywhere.

The original press release was dated January 5. I believe that LA was to be the world premier. Production is slated for Spring 2006, "if there is sufficient interest from potential customers."

I have access to Bentley's media site, I can get the pics and post them here "if there is sufficient interest from potential customers." ;)

I'm on the list for the new AMV8 Vantage. The AMV8 will be unveiled this year at the Geneva auto show in March. I'm guessing that they will start being delivered late this year as '06 models. I'm a little hesitant on getting a first year model run & may opt to wait a year for a '07 so they have a chance to work out all the bugs. A good website for Aston Martins is www.amoc.org, go to the forums & sign up, small community w/ very knowledgeable people on the brand.

I bought a used one for my wife a while back. She loved the looks of the car, it that or the Jag. I admit it is a nice looking car, but not a drivers car when you compare it the other cars you have owned. Once my wife got tried of the looks she wanted the Jag, says it drives alot better.

    Morrie,

Thanks for the input. I just got rid of my 2002 Jag XKR convertible which I hated. If the Aston is a more expensive version of that, I will gladly pass....
