Hey guys, I am looking at a 2000 model Aston Martin DB7 Vanquish convertable, V12 automatic Black/tan with 7,000 miles all books and records... I have driven it for a couple of days, it belongs to a friend that has a new DB9 on the way... It will just go into the garage, but I think it will get driven to the office occasionally... I know NOTHING about these cars, anyone have any experience with these? Thanks, Chris
Chris, I would pass & get a DB9, the DB7 is essentially just a tarted up old XJ6 Jaguar from the late 70s The DB9 rocks
William, I can always count on you to tell me what you think! (How is the girlfriend thing working out?) I agree, I am not in the market for this type of car, but lets just say the price is just too attractive. I could use this as back-up car when something else in in the shop.. I must say when you put the tranny in sport mode and traction control off, it goes pretty well... but no doubt its Dad was a Jag.......
I don't know the prices on these things but they are basically JAgs--nothing wrong with that, but I would look at a DB9 or, if the price is too high--I would very seriously look at the new AM-V8 that will be out this spring. Incredibly beautiful car--Check it out. I have one on order!
Well, I can buy this for LESS than a Jag.... this is just a toy on sale. Would not consider otherwise. I know the new cars are much better, I was just trying to get some input on the DB7....
You might consider checking out this AM forum for more details http://p088.ezboard.com/bastonmartinownersclub75168 It's part of http://www.amoc.org/
LOL, thats even more a Jag than the DB7 is. Regarding the Vantage, for a good price, you get a hand built 6-speed with a torquey V12 with British charm and sexy looks. The only thing it shares in common is a modified chassis, the DB7 inline six uses the Jag 3.2 inline six with tuning and a supercharger bolted on. The V12 is much more Aston than Jag. Sunny
I drove the DB7 Vantage manual and coupe. With the Sport exhaust from AM . I loved it. Its a GT, not a sport car . But for cruising or going to the local blockbuster , its great. The sound is amazing. And its beautiful. Even more so than a DB9 to my eyes.
DB7 is a fantastic car that will age very well (stylistically at least.) By all means get it if the price is simply awesome. To say it's a jag is a little bit loopy in my opinion. That'd be like comparing a Porsche GT1 to a 67 beatle.
Actually the V12 is two Ford Duratec v6s grafted together, not very Aston either, if that is supposed to be a bad thing.
The DB7 with the V12 is really nice. If you can get it for a good price, it's a no brainer. I think you'll like the car a lot. And they look terrific!
I know, my point was a subtle stab at Ford philosophy. The job as an engine designer at Aston Martin relies on your familiarity with the Ford parts catalogues. Sunny
At least they are starting to hide Ford parts, a Mondeo turn signal stalk has a way of dulling the handbuilt British GT experience.
He's picking on you for mixing up the DB7's "Vantage" name and the "Vanquish", which is the larger flagship that came out in 02
oh sorry.... See, I know nothing about these things... even though it is now in my parking spot here at the office... Hell getting old!
Congrats! How's the exhaust and the overall chassis feel? May you have many, many miles of enjoyment. Sunny
chris, unless it's yellow.....why bother ps: hey...just caught up w/ this thread....been overwhelmed w/ work and everything else.....will miss your event in eureka spring for i will on biz trip but will see you this sat. for breakfast
Maintenance on this car will add up in quirky ways. Even if you can buy it for $20k, do you really want the car? You don't seem the pack-rat type? --Dan
