He probably works for the real buyer who has him there to pick up some vehicles for his collection.

I love ferraris, but I don't think I would dress like that and be seen on national television. :)

...is that he is buying for a museum. And that was a LOT of money for that car. Cars are selling for crazy money here! Muscle cars particularly are bringing very strong numbers.

For what it's worth, I'm sitting in the bidders seating right this moment. Seems like everything after the Olds is a little anti-climactic, though.

Gonna run now to watch a Shelby GT500 go across.

they didn't. they paid $59.4k + an 8% buyer's fee. only dumb*hits buy in this setting. there is no way you are going to get a decent deal at barrett's.

Oh God, 3 million for that Olds is insane. I dont care what history it has. That Shelby Cobra sure looked like a deal compared to the olds.

Barrett Jackson is only show. If you have too much money and dont care to spend it wisely .....go there. The real enthusiasts go elsewhere.

That 308 was 20k too much IMO.

    Cheers,

From what I understand that Olds was a prototype built to compete with the Corvette way back when. It is the only one in existence and one of the VERY few GM prototypes that GM doesn't own. I don't know for sure but I would bet that he was bidding against someone from GM. What would you pay for a one of a kind Ferrari prototype? 3 million is almost a bargain.

Yes, but a Ferrari is always a Ferrari. $3M would make sense. Prototype's from my experience generally never brought in so much cash especially American steel. But what do I know?

But on that note, the American muscle cars are hitting the roof! Unbelievable! Wish I knew then what I knew now. Just a few years back when people weren't getting even a quarter for their muscle cars as they are now.

Barratt-Jackson and most public auctions are Circus Shows where people buy strickly on emmotion.

Most people have the financial means to enjoy themselves and who cares how much they spend. At the end of the day you get what you want, you had an experience beyond belief, and you justify what you did because you were there living in the moment.

A "good deal" is relative to the person spending the money.

I am happy for both buyers and sellers. They are all in the circus participating and both sides are walking away with smiles.

At the end of the day...isn't this why you/me/them go earn the money we do.... and then blow it....we want smiles on our faces.

Think how many times you over paid for something regardless of price just to have it now and put a smile on your face. The money is relative.

My opinion but I believe it is the truth for everyone. regardless if it's 3 million for an oldsmobile or $45 for a video game you bought for your son or yourself.

    Mario

P.S. I agree the prices are high...but that is why i am not there blowing my money.

Funny thing is the 2003 vette was just a vette. The 53 Vette is one of the 300 produced in 53. Up until a few years ago..the 55 Vette was getting more money then a 53..

One could NEVER get this kind of money on the INDIVIDUAL cars, but because they're a matched pair, you are paying for that piece of history (that the modern Vette was built to match that original).

I wouldn't pay 500 large for that, but it appears there are ALOT of people out there with ALOT of money.

I too, still can't get over these crazy prices for muscle cars.

So if B-J is not the place to buy a car if you are watching your nickels, which auction is the best of the bunch?

I believe those prices also include the 8% buyers fee.

I know I saw that Dino sell for 105k but with 8% it brings it to $ 113,400.00

The one held in the warehouse down by the wharf. Ask around, it's always held at odd hours, and the location is constantly changing.

No titles to deal with, or other legal matters that just cost extra dough. Everything is 'cash & carry'!

This is the wildest auction of muscles cars and converted street rods I have ever seen. $ 3 million for an oldmosbile prototype (wow), and the obscene prices for corvettes: not that any corvette in general was a truly limited production car.

It is obvious the cars being auctioned are those that relate to the mature audience that used to covet these cars when they were in high school. To have a one off street rod for those prices...I simply cannot imagine. The daytona spyder conversion went for a decent price...but compared to the corvettes and crazy other rides..it was a bargain.

Notice how few Ferraris are being offered there this year...down quite a bit from previous years...this is obviously not the place to buy imported sports cars. Imagine, a Ford GT40 (and not even thr opriginal one) for 280,000 plus the 8% commission...and they are going to make at least 4,000 of those and who knows how many more...and the list is only 140,000. What a racket.

I would never buy a car at such an auction. I don't see value for the money being spent...just an ego trip for some who have much more money to spend than sense.

While I agree re: BJ I don't agree in general having bought 3 cars at auction for prices I consider to be very reasonable.

Makes me wonder what an Enzo would sell for if one passed through. Current mark price or would bidders go nuts with it also?
