At one point would you retrieve a car from a shop?

My Mondial has a running rich issue that I’m trying to get sorted. No major work is needed. Had an appointment to drop the car off June 2nd at a well known shop. The car still is not completed. Requests for updates are met with generic responses like “we think the issue is …. So we are looking into it.” Then nothing for weeks. I am considering retrieving the car and taking it to a different shop. Is it normal for service work to take this long and am I maybe jumping the gun?

Everything is taking long these days. They can't even find people to work in those shops anymore. I have a car that's been gone for nearly a year. I haven't been pushing to get it back only because I'm juggling projects in my garage as it is. Good luck. Hopefully it's a reputable shop. If so, it may be worth the wait.

I guess that is true. I know that during the pandemic wait times for regular auto repairs were outlandish. They seem to have returned to normal now but it could be different with exotic service. The shop (and technician) is very highly rated. My concern is maybe they simply don’t want to fool with the car and are too nice to directly tell me.

My major service on my Mondial last year at Tim Stanford's took about a month to complete, but that was after waiting a year to get an appointment with him to have the service completed. It was worth the wait. You are out 3 months, if this is a small shop with a good reputation, I would give them some more time, maybe a visit is in order.

My best advice is to go to the shop and lay eyes on the car, talk to the people there. You'll know pretty quick whether your machine is priority.

... Jarrod I would take the car back and give it to someone who knows AND wants your business. Obviously, the current garage doesn't seem to qualify at least in one of the criteria...

I'd go with this along with, say baking a couple dozen cookies and dropping them off at the shop. Ask me how I know ;) You know, you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar!

I'd stop by, say hey and see what's up with your car. It's your car, check on it!
