As editor of FCCQ mag I've had official release from ATECO that they're new distributors for Ferrari / Maserati. Company currently distributes Citroen, KIA, FIAT (commercial vehicles only in Aus). Wonder how this new distributorship will sit with the new Brisbane dealer who is also Audi/Lambo dealer through a dofferent distributor? Very tangled web.
what's FCCQ? I don't understand the issue you raise with the new distributor. Could you explain further? thnaks
how tangled???? everything under fiat comes in thru ATECO-------don't need a map and compass top werk that one out
Fiat Car Club Qld. What seems odd to me is that you will have a distributor (ATECO) supplying a dealer (European, or whatever the new Bris guys are called) who also is a dealer for the major competitor (the guy who owns European also owns the Lambo dealership in Bris - don't know who the Aus distributor is). When you have one dealer being supplied with competing brands supplied through 2 different distributors I think it could be difficult if one distributor thinks the opposition is being favoured; you might find that distributor less than helpful in providing items in short supply or special orders. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all pans out. And yes, ATECO also distributes Alfa (and they're NZ as well as AUS)
In that case I'll keep to buying my machines from Brett at LD and run them in coming up the coast road
The dealer in Brisbane and the Gold Coast is MARQUE PRESTIGE OWNED BY GREG WILLEMS. AS YOU CORRECTLY POINT OUT HE ALSO OWNS LAMBORGHINI BRISBANE AND LAMBORGHINI GOLDCOAST. THE DISTRIBUTOR IS LAMBORGHINI AUSTRALIA OWNED BY THHE SMITHS. GREG ALSO OWNS BRISBANE ALFA ROMEO WHICH WAS PURCHASED FROM CRIGHTON. I AM SURE THE SITUATION IS SOMEWHAT OF A JUGGLING ACT BUT THERE ARE MANY. MANY INSTANCES OF THIS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. IF HE WASNT ABLE TO GAIN THE CONFIDENCE OF THE DISTRIBUTORS HE WOULDNT HAVE THE FRANCHISES ITS SIMPLE AS THAT. TIME WILL TELL.
Maranello Australia was owned by Suttons Motor Group for the last eight or nine years. Nothing to do with Maranello UK which can trace its history back to Ronnie Hoare then Inchcape and now I think owned by Ferrari. I didnt think you were impugning Greg at all........it is difficult to grasp however what is going on but it will be clear soon no doubt. Regards, John
This is my own personal view but I think they lost the distributorship because of lagging twelve cylinder sales and the showroom in Sydney. Sydney is a very lucrative Ferrari market and in all likelihood Italy probably felt the facility there was sub-standard.
I had heard of major prssure re 12 cyl sales too... and threats of holding back 8 cyl deliveries unless the situation improved anyway, all rumour and innuendo unless one of us happens across an internal memo... someone, please...
Heard a rumour that ATECO will be opening their own new dealerships with swanky new showrooms in every state (except NT)
That would be sensational - we could do with something in addition to Barbagallo's here in WA. They are great guys but their stock is nothing compared to the showrooms over east - we only get 2-3 Ferrari's in the showroom at any one time
oh ok, thats a shame - but if they have a better variety (and quantity) of cars then its a bonus What does the 'rumour' say about when this would happen?
