does anybody know if you can register a car such as the atom 2 in australia? for around 80 g's AUD, just out of curiosity, who likes them. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lesson number 1 for today- NEVER buy an orphan, you will lose a fortune if you can sell it at all. Been there done that- more than once.
Here's some pics from him just last week in the US with an Ultima for company. My understanding from him is that rep here in Aust is still going through ADR process and not fully settled yet. Prices likely around that being mentioned. I've been looking at PRB clubmans lately at 1/2 to 2/3rd the price and likely as quick. www.prbaustralia.com.au I've taken one around Eastern Creek which was fun. If my mate *does* end up getting an Atom registered then we can compare then and let you guys know ;-) Alex. this is a pure race car, it does 0-100 in about 2.9 seconds and maintaining it should be simple. Is this the fastest road car in the world? but of course a ferrari is a ferrari...
If you are into this sort of stuff, there is only one way to go- RADICAL. It held the ring record for a while recently.
In the UK atoms almost are the same price new as second hand. There is such a short supply & as only about 4 people work in the factory waiting lists are getting longer. I absolutely love them & am thinking of ordering the 300 which is a 5 month wait. I will be visiting the factory next week hopefully. The atom club site is here http://atomclub.com/default.asp Theres a forum inside too. P.S The atom can be used for road/track work, the radical although roadworthy is useless on the road.
The 300 does Sunday Times (Atom 300 Supercharged) 'And then came the Atom. Watching it leave the line was like watching a controlled explosion. It had such an overwhelming surfeit of power its driver didn't even bother using first gear. He simply seleclected second, dropped the clutch and disappeared. On the surface we'd have been stunned if it had hit 60mph in 3.1 sec but, when all six runs were completed, these were the numbers we were faced with: the 'slow' run into the wind took 2.94 sec, the return just 2.88 sec, to give an average 0-60mph of 2.91 sec.' http://www.arielmotor.co.uk/04/press.htm
I've driven a std (225BHP) item on track in the UK a couple of times, no doubting it's very quick in a straight line but a bit tricky in the curvy bits, it gives little feedback of what's happening and when it goes it's like any swb mid engined car it's gone. The gearchange is a best vague and the vibration through the chasiss is substantial, lastly I'd wear ear plugs, the induction noise right by your ear is huge I'd imagine the Supercharged one is just ridiculous fwiw the std car is around £27k in the UK, sports exhaust, track springs/dampers and sticky tyres add around £2.5k
"I've been looking at PRB clubmans lately at 1/2 to 2/3rd the price and likely as quick. www.prbaustralia.com.au I've taken one around Eastern Creek which was fun.", man who would pay that much for a clubman, i would say that for that money buy an elise. To build you own PBR, or locost etc shouldnt run you more than $35k at the absolute outside (unless you go and custom engineer a V8 into it or something). and for not much more, couldnt you get an Elfin MS8 clubman?
It is approx $45K for steel framed clubman with std Zetec and 5 speed and around $50K by the time you get on the road with engineer inspections etc. so will *never* be $35K new, not even that for 5+ years old. Many options for engine and gearboxes, LSD etc adds $10-15K to turn it into something really special. Normal Elise somewhat underpowered for same weight as clubman, eg 80ish KW vs 120Kw for PRB with Zetec so just no performance comparison. MS8 clubman is "only" $110+K before options so not exactly "for not much more" in price as you think - check it out at www.elfin.com.au From what I've read of MS8 is that it doesn't get it's power down as effectively as you'd like either - too much work managing wheelspin etc. ..to each his own of course ;-) YMMV Alex.
My apologies, last time i Looked at an MS8, they were talking around 80k, theyve obviously reviewed that now. As far as the Westfield Kit, when i looked into them, the basic roling kit was about 18k, then Toyota Running Gear (black 20v 4AGE) etc, i calculated the cost to be around 30k + whatever you wanted to do to make it special However i decided that $70k on an elise was still better value than 30-35k on a clubman, but that was just me. That was about 2 years ago i was looking at the Westie's & MS8 (befor they actually confirmed prices) though, so its all in the past i guess.
yes, you do have to keep on top of prices. Around the timeframe you mention the PRB's were around $17K for their (fairly complete) definition of a "rolling chassis" and about $22K now for same. And of course Westfield and PRB price compare hard to do as they all have different inclusions etc so perhaps $35K was right for Westfield then but definitely ain't that for PRB with zetec now, although again must compare apples with apples which is hard to do with these guys as they have diversified into different engine and mech options etc. pps: Been tempted with the "chance of a lifetime" racing options using Lotus Elise and Exige and still pondering giving it "a go" this Jan when their next rounds come up. www.lotustrophy.com.au Fun comes in all shapes, sizes and prices - thank goodness for the wide choice! Alex.
Why don't you try Aussie Legends instead? $40k for a new car or $30k for a used one. Fantastic racing. And cheap as far as motor racing goes.
who cares. Why not go to Dreamworld and go on one of those "drop from 13 floors up" thingy's.They go about 0-100 in 1 second.
