My daughter is spending a semester in Florence. Anyone have experience selecting the appropriate ATT international plan for an iPhone (she has the 3G)? Like everyone else her age, she texts constantly, but doesn't need to use her phone for email. I'm aware of ATT's advice for iPhone settings while abroad, but am particularly interested in experience in selecting plans. Thanks!

There is no international text plan or calling plan from AT&T...Unless you want to pay 000's per month, get her a local phone when she arrives in Italy. Phones are about 30 euro's and you purchase minutes. We did this for my daughter when she spent a semester in Barcelona.

Another tip is to get SKYPE on your computer and hers as a way to speak and see her...no cost

+1 either jailbreak the iPhone and install a TIM (Italy) chip, or just buy an unlocked GSM phone with a slider keyboard that she likes. Then, slam a pre-paid TIM chip into it.
