A good friend and customer is taking his new wife on a vacation down under. Last summer I took him for a ride in my GTSi. He had never seen an Fcar up close and was very impressed with his ride. I thought it might be fun for him, and ya'all to meet someon from San Diego. I talked to him this morning, and he is very excited at the prospect. They will start on the East coast and motorhome to the West. If it works out, you guys to meet up for lunch and a beer, he is looking forward to the shrimp on the barbie and some Fosters.

What do you think? I wish it were me and my wife as well.

    Cheers

    Rob

If they are planning Brisbane - Sydney - Perth its much like Boston to Newport News to San Diego ....without anything much in the way of towns in between ........ the Sydney to Perth is about a week if they dont stop for anything other than fuel and sleep and there is nothing out there .............. NOTHING !

For my ten cents worth of what to see in Oz:
    - Sydney (it is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the world)
    - Cairns (best point for access to the reef and islands, plus the World Heritage rainforest area of the Daintree,)
    - Central Australia - Uluru and Kata Juta (previously known as Ayers Rock and the Olgas - truly magnificent country), Kings Canyon but fly in to Alice Springs - there's a big lot of nothing in between these places!

Since they're arriving in Bris the friendly Queensland FCA folk may have a nice drive happening, if they're lucky!

..............since we went all PC , I still call it Ayres Rock since I am sensitive to my own culture. Go for a wander around Alice Springs alone after dark if you dont like it !

It will cost you $25 each to look at it , , for a while you can still climb it , there is nothing else to do out there !

    Have a look at this .......... http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/07/09/2621366.htm

My name is Brian and I'm the friend of original poster Klatu (Rob). My wife (Dawna) and I arrive in Brisbane March 15. We are renting a camper-van, and after a brief trip up to Hervey Bay for a day trip out to the reef, we are taking a 2-week slow roll down to Sydney. We're hanging in Sydney a few days and then flying to Melbourne on March 31 where we will be staying until we fly home on April 4.

If any of you on this string would be available to meet up or offer any travel advise, must-sees, etc. we would love to hear from you. Alternately my direct email is: [email protected]

Hi Brian, There isnt any club events on in Queensland during the period from arrival to your getting to Sydney.

If you want to do the hold a Koala thing I would recommend Lone Pine Sanctuary in Brisbane , , its in town , a nice location and there is a boat which leaves inner city Brisbane to take you right to the gate. Staff are very nice and unlike Australia Zoo they dont talk to you like you are a 5 year old. www.koala.net
    Prices are much cheaper also.

You can do Australia Zoo also which is located off the highway north out of Brisbane.
    http://www.australiazoo.com.au/visit-us/admission-prices/

Once you get about 70 miles north of Brisbane the roads narrow to equal to a state road in the USA. The good news is there is far far less traffic than in America too .
Inner city Brisbane traffic will be ok but no fun in a camper , there are many road projects going on around town so GPS devices may be a little lost at times.

I'm guessing most people would recommend the Highway 1 road when you are travelling south to Sydney. These will be mostly coastal or close to costal communities. If you still want to get an idea of what the "outback" is sort of like then you could go inland at Port Macquarie on Hwy 34 to Bendameer and then south to Tamworth on Hwy 15. From Tamowrth you can still head to Sydney easily on Hwy 15 and Hwy 1.
Hopefully some NSW Ferrari people can recommend the most popular routes for something to see and places to stay.

The whole "outback" thing is highly over-rated in my opinion. I think of it similar to a triple by-pass operation , , interesting kind of... but there is no way on earth its a "great" experience.

......can anyone else add some ideas ??

(The Nullabor Plain is North Dakota with all the interesting stuff removed)

    Paul,
Thank you very much for taking the time to offer your thoughts on or upcoming trip. Lone Pine is definitely something we plan to do. We will probably limit our trips too far inland as I'm a surfing enthusiast, so the coast is most intriguing to me. Of coarse I can't leave my little lady sitting on the beach the whole time so trips to the Zoo and other touristy activities will have to be sprinkled in. Thanks again.
