I hope someone can help me out here, I have a smaller humidor (50CT) which I cannot seem to be able to keep the humidity above 55%, thus slowly drying out the cigars. I am using a small sponge type humidifier filled with propylene glycol solution.

Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

First make sure the humi is sealing. Many don't even the high dollar ones. I'm using a large well sealing ice chest now since I have started buying boxes to let sit. I've looked at multi-thousand dollar cabinets and they weren't as stable as my ice chest.

I would dump the sponge and go with beads.

I get mine from heartfeltindustries.com They regulate themselves pretty good. I find cubans like it in the mid-sixties so I use the 65% beads, many prefer the 70% beads. Don't use the solution with them. Distilled water is what they need.

Get a hygrometer test kit so you can know what yours is actually reading +/-. I have not found one yet that was accurate without being tested and adjusted.
