Bruce: Someone at your party told me that this car was totaled and to stay away. I do not know if this info is true, but the person said he knew the car very well. Email if you need more info. Ken
I recently spoke to a buyer for European Auto based in Teterboro (the largest auction site in the U.S.) He told me that the last two 355's he purchased were in October and he bought one for $55K and the other for $60K . One was red and one was black, they both had over 15K miles on them and had been serviced although he could not remember the exact mileage.
before i moved to london in september i had a dealer quote me $77 on my 95 355 with 18,000 miles and is completely sorted out with respect to the valves etc....red with tan, which are easy to move...$55 or $60 sounds like a wholesale price for a euro model maybe...who knows, and who cares...$10K doesnt buy you too much these days anyway
Having researched for the last year in the process of a recent purchase of a 355B, some of the selling prices mentioned seem a bit low for non-auction (retail) sales, based on the description of some of the cars. Manheim has the largest auction in the US in Manheim, PA, as well as auctions in other locations, and list the cars for sale (presales) and results (post sales) at theirs and other auctions around the US on their website. Manheim, PA runs the most exotics thru, Atlanta and W. Palm are the others. These are actual sales for YTD: 1995 (6 cars sold) Above Average Low $81151 $64500 $47849 6105 miles 12210 18315 1996 (3 cars sold) Above Average Low $73024 $60730 $48436 25222 miles 27070 28918 While there were a couple of 97 and 98 sold, there was not specific data posted like above. I considered the auction, as it might be a way to save, but there is a high degree of risk in buying a Ferrari over the auction, which I am sure most are familiar with, plus not having much opportunity to do sufficient due diligence before buying, as well as not having a very good selection--not that many cars are wholesaled. I've spent too much time on this already, someone else can extrapolate the numbers in relation to the thread. It might seem that it is only milage that determines the 95 values, but I am sure it is more condition.
Ricky, The 355 market has moved down a lot in the past 3 months (it might be the winter/summer arbitrage). There is a 1997 355 GTS with 7K miles and a major service included with the price of the car , one owner mint car from Ferrari of Long Island for mid 80's. If anyone is interested, give Gianni a call.
