Audi Buying McLaren Group

McLaren vehemently denied this report. Am kind of glad they did.

I hope that McLaren does not accept the VW group offer. That would put paid to a major selling point for them - it's an F1 derived, all British brand.

I agree. Audi would be terrible. Too much internal competition from other VW-owned brands, and Politburo decision-making. Porsche would be not as bad as Audi (Andreas Preuninger as Product Development Tzar at McLaren would be heaven), but they have their hands full with their journey to electrification.
BMW would be a much better fit. There basically is no internal competition. McLaren would nicely complement BMW's portfolio and carbon fiber technology. BMW is basically family owned. And look what they have done at Rolls Royce! The only downside is when BMW gets involved in design...
