That's what the record shows; I didn't make it up, DUDE. . They aren't the same team that started in France in 77, and have been in and out several times. You said it yourself ! Since they bought Benetton, they have been the Enstone team (twice) under a French license, nothing more. They supplied engines to many teams, but cannot claim that success alone. since those are not built by Renault, but by Mecachrome .
That is one of the most ridiculous things I've heard. By that logic, Mercedes hasn't been in F1 but since 2010, and their engine success can only count as Ilmor's.
Exactly !!! Mercedes bought the Brawn team at the end on 2009 to enter F1 as a team. Before, they were only engine supplier, badging Ilmor engines. Everybody knows that !
And? Porsche are going to only be partnering with Red Bull on the engines. It's ridiculous to act like if you're not a full constructor, you're nothing in F1.
Well, there is some merit to this. Many championships have been won by constructors using the FORD DFV and other engines - it is always harder to build the engine and the car and win. when you can specialize in one or the other... that extra focus helps.
Anyway when the WCC was created back in 1958, only Maserati, BRM, Vanwall and Ferrari were "full" constructors, and 2 of them about to retire from F1. The FIA decided that chassis builders using outside engines would be considered as constructors. That allowed many new teams to participate: Cooper, Lotus, Lola, Brabham, etc ... Ferrari used to call them the "garagistes".
I'd love to see Audi in F1. That'd be awesome. I'm a big Audi fan as a car manufacturer, just love their clean line designs. And their money and brain trust will help McLaren. A win-win.
[AMuS] VW board supports Audi/Porsche F1 entry 2026. Porsche set to work with Red Bull. Looks like Audi & McLaren can't agree on a deal. Sauber now seems to be the favourite option. We hear Aston Martin is also interested in a deal with Audi. Final decision about the F1 entry of both Porsche and Audi will be made, when the new 2026 engine regulations are defined and approved by the FIA. That might take a few more months. There are still some topics to be discussed.

Both companies have been clear that the new engine formula coming in to play for that date must be cost effective, and do away with complex technology like the MGU-H that other manufacturers have had a head start with. Assuming Mercedes stays, the entry of Porsche and Audi will mean 3 German manufacturers in F1 with a huge political weight at the FIA. The absence of a German GP, on the calendar will become increasingly difficult to explain.
