Has anyone considered that maybe Mercedes withdraws when V.A.G. enters the fray?
The question is --- how many teams dissolve in the next 3 years or if Porsche just buys a team and rebrands it? Mercedes and Toyota did that as did many others. The sport may be getting some new money but that doesn't mean its growing or having more teams. That being said: Its still a good thing they are joining. I have to believe F1's expanding movement in the US market had an influence on these global brands to join in the fray. The Vegas GP is going to be wildly popular. On the day F1 announced the Vegas GP, Wynn and Encore had their BIGGEST request ever for hotel rooms that week. Unfortunately all those who tried found out that Wynn does not book rooms more than one year in advance.
Surely if Sauber's engines are supplied by one of VW companies in future, the team wont be branded Alfa Romeo anymore.
Yes, I thought about that scenario already when, almost unnoticed, INEOS took a stake in the team. At the moment the team is equally shared between Mercedes, Toto Wolf and INEOS, each owning 33% of the capital. I thought that INEOS could possibly buy Mercedes shares and rebrand the team. Operating worldwide, INEOS claims to be the biggest European chemical company ($80billions turnover) with plenty of disposable cash. Incidently INEOS already sponsoring several sports (athletism, cycling, football, sailing) is about to enter the automobive industry when it will launch a range of 4x4 vehicles, to compete against Land Rover and Jeep. So having a INEOS team in F1 could be opportune.
All the teams are rebranded during Formula one history or disappeared. Only Ferrari stays. Do you understand why they deserve a bonus now ?
I'm really sorry but if Williams folded tomorrow it would have zero inpact on F1 attendance or interest. That's why Ferrari gets the bonus.
I´m not sure VAG in any competition is good news. Did you notice that they´ve been already lobbying for their rules? Mercedes are amateurs compared to them. Also, as non-competitors, they´re not bound to any cost cap, and they´re always big spenders.
It's called negotiating from a position of strength. And it's not just seniority. Ferrari knows that it's name means 10x that of any other name in Formula 1.
Of course you're allowed. And further to that point any other F1 team is free to leave if they don't like it.
It started when Ferrari received a "sweetener" to sign the initial Concordee Agreement he was against. What we have seen since is that teams have come and beat Ferrari in spite of their financial handicap.
That is not the point is it? You defend an unbalanced system on the ground of emotional attachment, where I apply rational logic. No competitor should be given an advantage.
