Last weeks Autoweek, Audi stated we had better race it before someone else does. And they meant the current version.
Here's what Audi says: "The first test races in various European racing series are scheduled for the 2009 season." So most likely FIA-GT since they run GT3 here's more: "The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Györ." Perhaps we will be lucky enough so see what's going on with the customer program in Ingolstadt (just waiting for allocation for a 09 TT Coupe so we can pick it up at the factory in November). I got a ride in the Vitesse program's R8 at Road America - WOW - only problem was the Toyota Solara in front of us! It wouldn't have been kosher to pass it or run it over. Talk about a road hugger - didn't seem like you were going 150mph. She gave the Toyota plenty of space but said we'll catch up all too soon. I told John I wanted one! Carol have to check this out in a couple of weeks!
I think the article states 500+ hp. Most likely from the new V10. The road V10 should have about 530 hp, so expect that or more. Also, the normal V10 R8 is supposed to be very fast, so when it's all gutted, I think it will do just fine.
I can't see it in the FIA GT under Audi, since from my understanding, the FIA GT refuses manufacturer-backed teams. I would hope Audi would put it through ALMS.
They don't make Gallardo GT3 cars. This is a car designed for the track. The Gallardo is a road car that will get it's ass handed to it by race cars, be it 997s, DBR9's and this thing.
Have heard on the grapevine that Champion Audi has the allocation. Have also heard that it's not competitive for ALMS. Not sure what series it would be competitive it. At first I thought GrandAm. Now, I'll wait and see when the dust settles. CW
My good friend races the Ascari in GT3, he says he has known about it for a while and they are contemplating running diesel in 2010. "It will be an awesome car!" and "very quick". Good to see them on the track!
Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that is a Gallardo that a team converted. The R8 is a manufacturer produced car and I'd put my money behind the manufacturing race squad.
