A guy driving an r8 was getting on the expressway yesterday the same time as me so I let the cars in front of us get ahead to have some room and then we both took off. He was driving the v10 version, I was surprised by the fact that it was dead even between the scud and Audi. Traveled speeds up to 150-160, it was a blast. I'm very impressed with how fast the Audi is at this speed. Just thought I would share the experience.

My thoughts exactly. When Darwin pays a visit, I just hope there is no collateral damage...

Yeah, couldn't help myself, barely any traffic at all, not a common thing for me, the scud took over, I just couldn't stop it.

Very cool, was it a black R8? My friends have started driving their Lambos a few weeks ago, if you want to drive along with a half a dozen Lambos (Countachs, Diablos, Gallardos) I can add you to are Facebook Page? Nothing better than guys having fun with Supercars in Michigan.

Why KPH if you are in Michigan? If so that is only 100MPH so safe enough if the conditions were right. That is about my street limit for short spurts.

    Shezzz.

A guy cant post a little note about running up the gears without being critiqued it seems.

Cut 'em some slack Mother Theresa's of F-Chat. I am sure he confirmed before he took-off that he did not run through a pack of baby ducks or have any errant school buses parked in harms way.

Not every spirited driver is from the Fast & Furious crowd.

Now... Back to the topic. I drove an R8 and while I thought it was plenty quick I still yearned for a more expressive experience & accouterments. The damn thing does actually feel like an Audi when driven... So take heart dear OP in the fact that this R8 driver was unmoved while he ran with your Scud. Whereas I would have to assume that you were having the preverbal ball.

Slick. You could afford to be profoundly stupid but, you can't afford a subscription.

Yeah your totally right, I can't afford to subscribe but can afford to drive a scud. Talk about a stupid comment, geez I didn't think people would be so critical, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has driven triple digits in there ferraris on this board. Wasn't looking for lectures just wanted to share a cool experience, looks like I will just need to keep experiences like these to myself from now on so people don't have to get there panties in a bunch.

160 on the expressway is all fun and games until a mother carrying a load of kids not watching her rearview mirror suddenly swerves in front of you. At 160 if there was even a single other car on the road, that is one too many variables out of your control to consider what you did "safe".

I used to think like the OP. Over the years that has changed. The thing that growing up and having a family has taught me, is that while I could not care less what people do to endanger themselves, when they start potentially endangering me or my family that is where the line is drawn, and drawn hard.

So....cool story, super cool cars, I love Scuds and R8's, but please don't do it again. Track days are your friend.

I see accelerating up to high speeds, then slowing down immediately, very different from maintaining a high speed. I don't see much wrong with picking a safe straightaway with a clear view and no other cars, and in a short distance , hammer it up and slow down shortly thereafter.
The stuff that bugs me, is the high speed guys that go in and out of traffic causing potential harm to other drivers. Aggressive drivers like that should be jailed for reckless driving.

Well said. It seems as if some have never broken the speed limit.

I forgot to add, these high end sports cars doing 150-160 KPH...or even if it was MPH, are far safer at that speed than a 1975 NOVA at 60MPH, or a 2013 SUV at 85 MPH.
They have safer tires, brake faster, turn faster, etc. The only thing that can make it dangerous is that a lot of people don't realize that if you double your speed, your kinetic energy is quadrupled!! And of course your reaction time causes you to cover more ground before you react. At 100MPH, you are covering approx. 150' every second! so if your reaction time is 1/2 second (way faster than average), you travelled about 75' before you even apply brake! All that said, if it's done where you have great sight distance and no one else around (and no intersections), I don't see a problem with speed in these cars.
That's what they are made for!!

    Sounds like an fun experience.
Like someone else said "even though the audi is fast it doesn't bring the same level of excitement for the driver." Heck I spent a lot of time driving a gallardo and while very fast it just felt boring.

In the real world a Corvette would eat the Audi R8 for lunch, eat a Lambo for dinner, and crap out a GT500 in the morning.

Sounds like the corvette had better lay off the fiber diet.

Most stated define agressive driving as 15-25MPH over the posted limits, in addition to actual agressive driving; BTW.

A Audi R8 was behind me today in traffic, then beside me, and then ahead of me in traffic. They are a neat looking car! The Corvette? A world class car, but mass produced, you see them everywhere. The Corvette just does not have the "wow factor" it used to have. That said, the Corvette is a absolute bargin, for the money. Wish Ford would bring back the Ford GT, a truly great car, and the prices on the 05-06 GT's are sure going up!

I remember the first time I test drove the 04 575 I bought from Algar, Francis and I took it out on the highway I put my foot down and before I could even realize it I was doing 135mph. I am not a bad driver but at those speeds things happen fast and that day something almost did. It does not take much skill to drive fast on a highway (they are not banked tracks after all) it does take skill to avoid something at those speeds. That was 8 years ago I have not driven at that speed since and probably never will again. Though I drive without traction controls and for me skill is being able to keep the car planted (and being able to slide the tail around a tight curve and bring it back without jerking the car) while I drive.
