Audi reveals Truth in 24 II is coming

Audi took the NFL Films crew to the 2008 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and with the footage gathered created the rather excellent documentary Truth in 24 (it's still free to view on iTunes and YouTube). It turns out Audi took a crew to last year's race as well, and soon we'll be treated to the sequel, Truth in 24 II.

We'll assume Audi had no idea how exciting that race would end up being, with Allan McNish in one of three R18 Ultras flipping out literally just two hours in, and a second Audi crashing out six hours later. After a battle of fuel, tires and pit stops the fight with the Peugeot 908s went to the last lap, making the 2011 race the fourth closest Le Mans run in 79 editions.

A forum member at Ten-Tenths said "The film should be finalised over the next 8 weeks" and that it will deal much more with the race than the backstory...

*Awesome!* If it's nearly as good as the first one it'll be worth watching.

I suspect it'll be even better though! - The NFL guys now have more experience, and the race was a thriller - We know they won't miss building the drama in the way only NFL Films seems able to do.

Plus, you've gotta love the price. Kudos to Audi!

Leena Gade is the first woman race engineer to win the 24 Hours of Lemans. She accomplished this goal at the 79th running of this iconic race in June. I was at the finish line to witness the dramatic finish as her Audi team nudged aside Peugot after a particularly brutal race. Two out of the three Audis on track wrecked in nasty crashes, though no one was harmed. In the end, the win was sweetened by the struggle.

Two weeks after the actual race, the sheer number of people who contacted me was amazing, Gade said. It was a big deal, but I was just doing my job.

Gade joined Audis team in 2007 working under technical director Howden Haynes before being promoted to race engineer. The way our race team is set up, the lead engineer is running the whole team, making sure the car is functioning properly, anything to do with engine function of the car or tires, Gade said.

Her plan can vary for drivers in an endurance race in which three different drivers divide their time behind the wheel of a single car. Her winning car was a diesel-engined Audi R18 TDI, driven by Benoît Treluyer, Marcel Fässler ,and André Lotterer. Its never the same with all three of them. You have to balance their needs, to make them not just comfortable, but competitive.

Gades role on the team is a childhood dream realized. Ive always been interested in engineering. As a kid I would take things apart and put them back together from a mechanical point of view.

Gade was Born in the U.K, but spent a part of her childhood in India. When the family moved back to England she started to watched Formula One on TV with her sister. Nigel Mansell was a big driver, she said. Thats how we both got interested.

Lede took a job at Jaguar after completing her engineering studies. I was in the right place at the right time. she said. I came into Audi a little green. The first race weekend I went to at St. Petersburg it was a shock to look at the level of technology.

The drive to succeed keeps her from getting nervous on race day. The only thing you have to deliver is a first place result. That takes the pressure off. Its a done deal when you know you have to finish on the podium. Theres no thinking you can be okay with sixth.

Shes currently consumed with testing development is a huge part of success in the Le Mans prototype series. We will start ramping up in September for the world championship and gearing up for Le Mans again. In an odd way we work for a whole year for one race.

She wouldnt trade her job. Gade prefers life in the fast lane. Whether running through the airport to catch the plane, to getting to the race track, the dynamic is very individual, that makes me want to keep doing more and keep winning races.

Marcel Fässler/André Lotterer/Benoît Tréluyer*won the race last year at the wheel of the Audi R18 TDI with a lead of just 13.854 seconds. The three Audi factory drivers mingled with the enthusiastic crowd in attendance and enjoyed the cinematic premiere of their own victory. That was on SPEED or Velocity sunday or monday with no details so I did not watch it, I'll look for it though.

Just checked and part #1 is on again at 4pm Central this saturday.

It was worth watching, but the first Truth in 24 was much better. I wish I would have waited for it to come out on iTunes. As was mentioned the segments were incredibly short and annoying. I'm glad I at least watched it on DVR, but it was a pain in the ass to have to fast forward every 5 minutes.

Apparently NFL Films was not on sight to shoot the footage, but rather had to piece together footage that Audi took.
