Have you guys seen the write-up on this car? 4.2 liter V8, 414 hp, over 350 lb ft of torque................And only $80,000, did I say only????????? Only $30,000 more than an M3 and $25,000 more than a C55. I love the S4 but jumping up about $35,000 in order to get the 4.2 with the increased horsepower is questionable..............

Hrmm... doesn't seem worth it, but if you absolutely have to have the fastest all-surface sedan in the world, the RS audis fit the bill.

    I still want one...BMW's are fetid, and I need a 4dr with 400+bhp
We have W12 A8 and love it, S8 or RS6 has potential. 68K in would be better. I'm on the list, #2-3 I think. Like I need another car.

I am waiting to see what the new S8 is going to be like.

All else fails I guess I can watch quattroporte prices fall and snatch one in 2 years.

    Where did you hear that?

The only change I've heard of is that the US will not get the cool seats, since they can not be fitted with side-airbags (something Audi USA demands).

And we are ALL jumping to conclusions way too soon on the Price. The 2007 Audi RS4 will not reach the US til next June.. they have a long time to figure out how they want to price it.

Lets also keep in mind that a Loaded 2007 BMW M3 will top $70,000.

    A guy in my street has a 2001 yellow RS4 and a 2004 red 360 F1 spider.

The old model had the 2.7 V6 twin turbo with 381 hp as you know.
Of course he has an Audi Sport chip in it so he has 420 hp.

Performancewise he prefers his Audi over the Fcar everyday.

Last year september we went to the I.A.A. international car show in Frankfurt. Between Cologne and Koblenz we did at least 5 km on top speed.
That means 315 km/h (197mph) on the speedo with 4 people in the car.
Stability as like a rock. (Not just because of our 4 fat asses...)

    what a car....

i think the price point is off the chart out of line.

remember the RS6 stuff a couple years back - they only imported a very limited number of the cars to the US and the dealers still couldn't move them that easily. i hit three dealers one day asking about them. every single dealer told me "oh, no, that's sold out, sorry" and every single dealer called me back later that same day suddenly having a car available for me.

this is a tough market for audi to play in - the M cars and AMG cars own this market and it's an uphill battle for them. these sorts of price points aren't going to help anything.

i too am eager to see how the S8 stacks up. i hope they don't price it silly.

As an RS6 owner (and a former AMG and M owner), I feel that Audi's products are very good. However, I think the price tag on the new RS4 is way out there. When I bought my RS6, my friends all thought I was nuts. "How can they charge almost $95K for a VW?" they asked. Well, one drive and you will understand.

That doesn't mean that the car isn't without its faults. And, we get a bit shortchanged here in the US. We don't get the best seats or Navigation systems. Frankly, I've seen better amenities in a Lexus. BTW, the US will not get the squared off steering wheel. That's been stated before on the Audi forums.

These faults, while they do take something away from the car, aren't tragic. Audi has spent the money where they should have: engine, brakes, suspension. This is definitely a driver's car. Many people don't like the "dead" steering feeling, though. All I know is that I enjoy driving the RS6. Plenty of power, good suspension, great brakes.

The local Audi dealer has been trying to get me to commit to a Le Mans, but I just saw the first imported Porsche GT3RS and am more interested in doing a deal on that. The guy who's selling it has driven it 5 times and gotten 4 tickets. I've got enough license and insurance troubles already, though!

I am concerned that Audi is doing too many projects and trying to be all things to all people. From the entry A3 up to the RS6 (replacement due in 2 years...maybe), Audi has such a diverse product line that I wonder if they're losing some focus and quality. I've not noticed that they have, but it's in the back of my head.

    That's 'cuz you're tight...I paid less for ours :D
A current M3 (not counting bottom end rebuilds) goes for close to 60, converts go for over 60. Loaded S4 is 56. New M5 is 90 with options that were standard on *sniff* the old, pretty E39 M5. C55 is 60, certainly not a drivers car like others.
If they bring it in @ 65-67k, that's more reasonable, they enlarge the prod # a bit to amortize it, drop their cost. They need to undercut the Bangle BMW's and they'll clean up with conquest buyers. Their leases are nowhere near competitive, which kills a huge segment of buyers who lease on price...BMW and Benz pump up captive finance residuals to drop lease costs on back end, make LOTS of $ on interest, steady supply of loaded CPO cars. Lots of frequent traders pump up new "sales" including re-leasing.
Hope it is cheaper, need an excuse to buy it. Much kewler than S4.
What is price difference between M3 and M3CSL??? I honestly don't know, but the S4/RS4 diff may mirror 80% of that difference?
PS: GT3? 997 GT3? in US? Need details on that :)

I didn't say that's what I paid for it. Actually, I think I got it for around $39k, but its been a while. I prefer the title cheap.

    Sfumato,

I sat in a true, current production, federalized, and US street legal GT3RS. The real thing (as in the TopGear Stradale v. GT3RS comparison). Ask is $188K. Holy Schnikes! 400bhp. Normally aspirated. Full cage. Yadda, yadda. Nice.

In that video, the RS got the nod because it was so much less expensive. I think the owner/seller has fixed that problem! I can't imagine what justifies the asking price. However, I'm certain that federalizing the car wasn't inexpensive. Of course, how hard is it to pop the parts off of a standard 911 derivative and throw them on the RS? I kid, I kid!

Actually, I'd consider dumping the RS6 for the GT3RS. Apparently, I can only get excited about cars that are from Maranello or have RS in their model!

Does that make us RS-holes?? :)
Porsche has perfected the "less is more" marketing. They'll sell you a body in white for only 200k more than a complete 997S. Carbon fiber extra. :p

    Doody,

I read the review while waiting at the airport a few days ago. I do not remember if it was Road and Track, Motor Trend or whatever. It was tested against the M3 and the M/B. That is where I got the price. When I was with Audi I sold the last RS6 we had on the floor for slightly under $70K with and MSRP of $84,000. It had sat on the floor for over five months......Funny how we really started getting a lot of calls from people looking for them after the last new ones sold.............

It's an attractive car, but when it comes down to it, there are many cars that can offer the performance for less money. The Corvette ZR-1 comes to mind. It can run with the RS4 all day and is a great investment to boot.

this wouldn't happen to be the same ZR1 that you are trying to sell in your other post would it? Nice effort, but come on.

I love the new RS4 but i think they are asking too much for the car (reportedly). I drive a S4 already and anticipated this car coming out from Audi for a daily driver replacement..... But wth the new 2007 Audi R9 coming out, i think i will wait and give this baby a look-see........
