Well... thanks to some help on this board, and test drives, I will need to make a decision on the following. If anyone can help out, please offer me some advice:

    *Audi TT V6($44K) - Lease $499.00 for 36months
    *SLK 350 V6 ($49K) - Lease $589.00 for 42monts

Which would you choose??? and why??

Thanks in advance for the help..

TT=VW Golf FWD/AWD platform, closer to the end of the product cycle.
SLK=new RWD platform, beginning of product cycle, great reviews.

For the money, I'd go with the SLK, no question.

l would go with the TT for the following reasons.

    1. The DSG Transmission works great. The transmission will probably be copied my other manufactures in the future. The gear changing is both quick and smooth. I enjoyed driving it so much a few months back. I was hoping the new VW R32 was going to be available with the DSG transmission. If you are comparing the DSG transmission with the 7 speed M/B transmission, the dsg will be more enjoyable IMO.

    2. Great sounding car(I haven't heard the new SLK 350 though.

    3. Still a great looking car IMO(I prefer the coupe over the convertible). Classic design.

    4. Great interior. Fit and finish is exceptional. The TT has one of the best interiors I have ever been in. If you get the coupe there is a lot of room when you fold the rear seats down.

    5. The TT has been out for a number of years. You will avoid the possible problems that could come with an entirely new model(SLK). I had an early production TT (2000 model) and I had a few problems that Audi has since addressed.

    6. AWD vs RWD. Makes sense for me since I live in Michigan but might not be that important for you.

    7. The TT would cost less per month and is a shorter lease.

The SLK 350 is great looking car. The new SLK seems to be a huge improvement over the previous SLK. I think you have to decide if you think the SLK 350 is worth $90 more a month than the TT. If money isn't a big issue then I would go with the car that left you with the biggest smile after you drove it. If you have any specific questions regarding my experience with my TT instant message me and I will gladly answer them.

The new SLK. It's gotten great reviews unlike the TT and it's RWD and it will hold it's value a lot more. Which will help when it comes time to turn it in. For more fun in the handling department I do RWD. It really it's up to how you like to drive, but for me the HARD TOP and more lux MB is my pick. The hard top is just pimp and always get's a look when it transforms.

The SLK is better looking and NEW. In fact....in silver with the AMG sport package it's downright horny !!

The AUDI, while still OK, is a tired design.

No question - SLK. New car, great looking, great performance for the price. Definitely worth it. The old SLK was a chicks car - this new one isnt.

The TT must get updated soon...it can't be out on the cycle as long as it has. I think Audi quality is the lowest of any German car co. My buddy had his bought back on a lemon law. I told him fat chance there was no way he was having that much trouble. Next thing I know it's gone.

I assume you want a retractable hard top...right?

I have a deposit on an AMG version of the SLK-350 when they hit. Don't know if I will take it. Rear end still stubby. But overall nice. Should be a hoot.

    Hi Rick,

Looks as though you already have an eviable stable of cars, congratulations!

With regard to your next toy, it's a simple decision. Can it be disputed that the TT is the better vehicle?

I like the fact that the TT is in it's fifth model year, glitches are worked out. Have you seen MBenz reliability ratings recently? The style of the TT is retro-timeless, the car is as cool now as it was when it first arrived. The fascia of the SLK looks like a smunched up poseur version of the SLR. ick.

The power and exhaust note on the TT is pleasing! A family member bought the 'vert and I drive it often, gets quite a few looks as well. I had an SLK while visiting southern france (cannes, nice, etc) and it recieved a fair amount of attention- but I'd like to chalk that up to the driver. I'm a smooth guy! ;)

The very bottom line is, get the TT for it's MASSIVE AWD Quattro system. It's unreal- buy the coupe and throw a roof rack on it and take it anywhere you'd like to go- skiing, biking, hiking, etc. The AWD system on that car is a rock star. The SLK? Maybe some traction control... whee.

Plus, as previously stated, the SLK is a girl's car.

    Nick

Thanks to all of your responses. I'm glad to hear of the positives and negatives of both. This will help me in my decision. I'm going to head out to Santa Barbara Auto Group to look and test drive them once more prior to my final decision.

    Thanks again,

    Rick

We have an SLK 350 - got it last month. It is definitely NOT a "girl's car" as some folks think. The revamped look certainly testifies to that. We got the sport suspension, comfort package, lighting package, six speed manual transmission - Caspian Blue/ash interior. The exhaust on "Kaspar" is quite throaty and I am sure will have even more character once it's officially "broken in". It handles the road very nicely, short throw shifts, lots of torque, is very comfortable and as one person said - The SLK 350 has been named the 2005 Luxury Sports Car of the Year - Road and Track. We also have an '04 MB C320C, '89 Mondial t. Photos attached.

Good luck with whatever decision you make. FYI, you can gather quite a bit of info on benzworld.org in the R 171 forum.

Which car? It depends on your needs. I've been eying the TT quatro convertible since before it came out because, as far as I can tell, it's the only vehicle in the daily driver league that is an AWD convertible. I have a lo-o-o-ng, uphill driveway, which rises 25 feet in elevation within the last 150 feet of distance, and it is quite the challenge in winter. Assuming adequate road clearance, our AWD Toyota van gets out without difficulty, our AWD Mercedes struggles a bit, and my FWD VW convertible does reasonably well, but isn't a match for the AWD vehicles. During last week's snow storm, I got the VW out, just barely, with the Z-chains on the front. So, when it's time to replace the VW, I'm looking for an AWD convertible. Excepting a jeep, I think the TT is it.

    John & Carol,

Great shots of the new car.... I remembered it being a dark color, from pics before the server crash, but in the areas well lit by the sunlight, that green-ish color is great looking!

I'm curious about the engineering of the retractable hard top. How is the trunk affected by the retractable hard top? Does it even have a trunk to speak of? Is it accessed thru the interior, or does the top have to be up to access the trunk? Granted, no one would expect that car to be able to carry several golf bags, but, is there much room at all for weekend bags?
