V12 Turbo Diesel as well. http://www.motorsport.com/photos/alms/2005/gen/alms-2005-gen-tm-0135.jpg Better fuel economy means it'll be staying out longer spending less time in the pits. So much for F1 being the cutting edge of technology. Lets hope this could be a new era.
How many other teams are running diesels? Lets just hope its not as dominate as the R8. Gets boring seeing one car win everything.
I will be interested in the sound.....The looks couldn't really be much better or worse. Looks like Audi might have put the axe on motorsport.com
I can't see it on my browser?????????? Now I found it: http://www.motorsport.com/photos/alms/2005/gen/alms-2005-gen-tm-0131.jpg http://www.motorsport.com/photos/alms/2005/gen/alms-2005-gen-tm-0129.jpg just change the jpg no.s and you will see tons of photos
Nice looking car. Racing is marketing, so I doubt if this diesel sounds like a Chevy pick-up truck. Should be interesting. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It probably sounds like any other turbo racecar...........only better, since it's a V12. But will it go further between pitstops? ;-) Paul M
According to the press releases, the drivers cannot hear the engine note at all and the only time it is audible is when it's idlying. Judd has also produced a diesel engine which will be rebadged a Peugeot as they are preparing to throw their hats back into the ring. Dont know when the official announcement about that will be made but would expect it to be soon. BHW
HA! you would be surprised of what that diesel will sound like, if it is what i expect then it will have a nice rich sound.... i hope
But, don't forget the LMP2 is a lighter car. The Zytec and some other LMP2 cars have shown that they can beat the LMP1 cars. What I find interesting is that the ACO has included AIRCONDITIONING in the rules! And upped the min weight by 25kg to compensate for it. LMP1/2 is 925 and 775 respectively. Found here
Depending on the track true. That is interesting but makes sense. The temp in the Corvettes was getting way too high.
There was a diesel-powered entry in 2003, with a VW V10 diesel out of the Toureg, but it didn't finish. And Peugeot are planning on contesting in 2007 with a diesel. The way the ACO have rejiggered the rules, if you can build a diesel you may as well - air restrictors mean that no-one will have more than 650 bhp, but with the derv you get better tourque and better economy, so faster out of the corners and fewer trips to the pits. Also, with the way things are in Europe now, the PR value of winning Le Mans with a diesel would be huge.
