On our last trip the auto door locks stopped working (previously worked good). Specifically, the passenger door did not lock when locking the driver's side. Once I obtained a few tools and removed the door panel, I isolated the problem to the electric mechanism, probably a solenoid. By disconnecting the linkage from the solenoid to the lock, everything else worked okay. I could lock the passenger door from inside and unlock it from inside or outside. Drivers door worked correctly.

Now home, I removed the electrical device and applied voltage in both directions. It clearly appears to be dead. More curious, measuring the voltage at the passenger side wire connector I found there was voltage all of the time (+ or - 12 V depending on how you connect your leads). I tested the voltage by locking and unlocking the driver's side door. Polarity at the passenger side would switch from + 12 to - 12 when locking and unlocking the driver's door. But in all cases the power stayed to the solenoid. My expectation would be that power would only be applied when turning and holding the key. Do my tests indicate the correct actuation of the power from the driver's side to the passenger side?

I suspect, my real problem is on the driver's side and by applying power full time to the passenger side the solenoid burned out.

    Anyone have similar problem?

The device on the drivers door has a switch in it to command the passenger door to follow its actions. It sounds like yours is shot. You can buy universal units on Ebay for around $20 for the pair. The drivers door unit is called a master unit or five wire unit.

When mine died, I installed a universal remote start/door open/alarm unit for around $100.

I will definitely go generic the next time. I just ordered a working used one from a parts car and paid a bit too much.

It looks like the one in your picture would do just fine.

The one in the pic is what I used. All the holes even lined up!
