I'd love to know more about this Aurora collection being auctioned off through Sotheby's Villa Erba on My 20th. I see some AMAZING Ferraris. It could be an informative thread to get to learn the history of some of these cars and post some photos. I especially love the Daytona Spider. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-11963741/Hidden-collection-14-classic-cars-worth-26m-sold-auction.html
You got the answer already in the other thread ("pix found on internet"......), where you posted a screenshot. If you check the RM Sotheby's website you will find pix of the 12 Ferraris including the chassis numbers: 0610 MDTR, 2347 GT, 2931 GT, 07563, 10337, 17055, 61055, 109822, 124198, 128412, 181258, 250235. The story in "This is Money" (your link) is misleading and contains incorrect information. Marcel Massini
Yes, Thank you for letting me know there is misleading info in "my link". Obviously I wouldn't want incorrect information.
All the information is here directly from the auction house: https://rmsothebys.com/en/home/lots/ve23#?SortBy=Default&SearchTerm=&Category=All%20Categories&IncludeWithdrawnLots&Auction=VE23&OfferStatus=All%20Availability&AuctionYear=&Model=Model&Make=Make&FeaturedOnly=false&StillForSaleOnly=false&Collection=Offered%20From%20The%20Aurora%20Collection&TagLine=All%20Lots&WithoutReserveOnly=false&Day=All%20Days&TimedOnly=false&OneHubLinkOnly=false&AuctionedStatus=All%20Lots&page=1&pageSize=200
Please explain these mirrors on the Daytona Spider. Are they factory? Image Unavailable, Please Login
To my (limited, since I wasn't there) understanding, many or perhaps even most Daytonas didn't have any outside mirror(s) mounted when they left the factory, but one or more, if needed, were installed by the selling dealer, so in theory, this could've been on the car since new.
i think the mirrors may have been supplied in the cardboard box along with the tools, manuals and paint can.
Yet, the mirror currently on the car could've been specified by and installed for the buyer after/during/prior the delivery, but again, who knows ? I know I wasn't there at the time. More interestingly, at least to me, the auction description seems a bit obscure whether the current paint is the original application (i.e. by Scaglietti during production) or repaint done sometime later in the cars life.
In the day, all you got in Italy, with a new car, was an inside rear-view mirror. No laws to outside, left or right. Early 70's along with a replacement MOMO leather wheel, was the "Vitaloni California" door mirror. The mirror to have. Regards, Alberto
What is the difference between a 500TR and a 500 Mondial? The Scaglietti built cars look identical, plus I presume the engines and transaxles are the same. Is the difference in the suspensions?
The Scaglietti built Mondials and 500 TRs are certainly not identical. 500 Mondials have rear mounted transaxles, whereas 500TRs have front mounted gearboxes.
There were differences in the suspension too with the Mondial utilising a De Dion arrangement and the 500 TR a live rear axle. Gears were crash on the 500 MD and synchromesh on the 500 TR I believe.
