So do you think the plane really exists? Remember the stealth fighter and bomber were black programs for some 8-10 years before they showed it to the world. Alot of UFO sightings were because of them.

I think its possible although i really think there would be more evidence. Having said that, they kept projects like tacit blue (below) pretty well under wraps until they officially confirmed its existance

    Ask yourself this question.

Why would the USAF retire the Blackbird, the highest, fastest and most immediately positionable spy platform ever built to also rely solely on satallites they do not control (NRO), for their Image Intelligence (IMINT)? Did I also mention the "sexy factor" of the Blackbird as IMINT routinely hits the President's desk in the Daily Brief?

There is not a chance in he11 they would .......... unless .............

I have seen and have first hand knowledge of what you are referring to as “Aurora”. The flight characteristics are other worldly. Imagine, if you will, that a “plane” had the ability to suddenly….Hold on a second, someone’s at my doorrr stedryfuvgbinom;,p'.extrcyvubinomiu7y68t57crvtubyinomip,[

Project Aurora was confirmed by a seismologist and backed up by a lot of other seismologists.

New rules of operation have obviated and negated these findings.

    :p

Seismic tracking went from a neat idea and possible doctorate thesis to..."neat idea. STFU."

...unless they have better and cheaper methods of obtaining intelligence. Unmanned aircraft is a huge priority and can maintain awareness far longer than anything else.
Still there are instances wherein a fast plane with a camera might be needed. Cloud cover/remote areas not served by drones...sure.

Aurora is real. It's existence was proved via seismographs. It fills a role not able to be filled by other planes, satellites and drones. Other planes are too slow. Sats can be blocked via weather or other means, drones are limited to a small theater of operation. Aurora can take off and touch down on the same spot and snap pics of everything in its path in 4 hours or less.

Not news. Russia probably has all the plans for Aurora as sold to them by some scumbag. Same as for the space shuttle, and sst...look at how well the USSR did either and we know that having the plans is only the first step. If they cannot reproduce the space shuttle or the sst then we have nothing to worry about them having the blueprints for Aurora.

    Same for the Chinese.

I hope there is some validity to the stories. I just don't want to think that black aircraft have been replaced by drones, satellites, etc. Where's the passion in that??!

Thrust-vectoring ballets, low-level mach runs and high-g yankin' and bankin' performed by the F-22 and current Migs might be the final show for romantics like you and I.

The Aurora, I suspect, is a RPV.

Not really. Sats have a fixed orbit and to alter that costs $$$ not to mention the loss of available lifetime in orbit. Add in things like ... oohh... cloud cover and your sat is a just a camera with its lens cap on. Also, do not forget that a sat can take as few as 24 hours to multiples thereof before it can snap a pic.

Aurora can be, start to target, anywhere on the planet in 3+ hours. Give for take a few minutes. No cloud cover limitations and no lens cap limits. This is a hugely powerful device...it gives us the ability to see anything LONG before that anything has a an impact on a war or battle.

Aurora does exist, but the details will not be released. We could fax Russia the blueprints but they'd never be able to make it. Same as they could not replicate the space shuttle or the SST...there's a HUGE and MONUMENTAL engineering and replication barrier that exists...and cannot be overcome.

Like I said before...Aurora does exist....and it is really fantastically fast.

Seismograph confirmation alone should make the former USSR **** ten golden bricks.

Way back when I worked on the engine for the SR-71 (back at the "prison" looking building in the swamp, and if you have been to Moroso you know where I am talking about) I talked to the guy who was the customer interface with Lockheed on the SR-71 program. The program was "deep black" in those days and our guy never got to see anything inboard of the nacelle. Whenever he was near the aircraft, there were curtains set up so that he could only see the nacelle and end of the wing. He never knew what the rest of the airplane looked like. One day he was taken out to the hangar and told that he was not to talk about what he was going to see. He walked into the hangar and was shocked to see a cockpit on the front of the very strange looking aircraft!!! Since we knew the airspeed and altitude conditions (we designed the inlet too) everybody assumed that the engine was for some kind of unmanned airplane. We had no idea that somebody actually rode in the thing.......

While we have come a long way with unmanned stuff since then, I wouldn't assume that Aurora is unmanned. Until you know for sure, it just isn't safe to assume.

When I was in college, I was a microbiology nerd... My roommate, however, was an engineering major (civil), and he shared a bunch of classes with guys from the mechanical, electrical, and aerospace programs. The father of one of my roommate's friends, who worked for one of the defense contractors in aerospace (can't remember now which), took a few of us out to dinner one night when he was in town visiting. I mostly kept quiet throughout the night, as all the guys were swapping "war stories" about their math classes, etc., etc. - stuff way over my head. This guy's dad told some fun stories about his early years, going from this project to that, and so on. Finally, one of the guys at the table said, "So what's the deal with Aurora?!"

With the straightest face I had seen all night, the response was only, "Change the subject."

I knew a ret'd Lt. Col who was an SR-71 pilot. Serious guy. But he told some crazy stories about flying over the USSR. He said he could see missile trails coming up at him as he flew, but he was too high and too fast - but he said it's still unnerving to see people *trying* to kill you.

Discovery Channel re-aired one of the Area 51 specials again last night for the millionth time. Always entertaining to watch these types of over the top conspiracy programs.

How does the economy affect these Top Secret programs? I'm assuming very very little?

OK, beyond the Aurora itself - what about that so-called Pulse Jet idea...?

Remember the "donuts on a rope" contrail argument?

I personally think that might just be an ordinary contrail with some vortex interference, and find the idea of something that bangs off shots like an old V1 pretty crazy - I am pretty much a hyper ram-jet (Scramjet) fan myself.

    but who knows?

Well, where may I ask do you get the oxidizer stuff to detonate without the atmosphere (in a pulse detonation engine)?

And what would be the advantage over a continuous burn rocket (which would certainly have less tendency to tear the ship to pieces)?

And where, may I ask, did the contrail come from outside the atmosphere?

In a rather contrarian way I kind of hope it does not - provided it looks anything like the bulbous shapes printed in all the magazines, and actually made up in that plastic model.

I would rather rememer the beautiful, alien, and brutal lines of the classic SR-71.

But if they can build one that outdoes the Blackburn, then I am all for it.

That would take another Kelly Johnson, though.
