I just attended annual AUSFLY - Together under the one sky hosted by Narromine Aero club which has been in existence since 1929.

Highlight for me was the Grumman Avenger and later doing low level passes.

I can't believe the enormous size (or more accurately the diameter) of this machine dwarfing people and other planes.. yet when I looked up underneath it has a relatively shallow "bomb bay" (or torpedo bay I'm guessing).

Trap for the unwary was the dripping oil underneath the engine.. I'm told "all radials do this".

Any knowledgeable types can tell me meaning of the "up arrow" marking on the tail? (beyond the obvious, err, "this way up" lol)

A Wirraway! Now there's an aircraft type that I doubt that we'll ever see at a North American show. (Of course, it's based on the T-6, but it's still unique.)

    Indeed!

I deliberately under exposed and posted that version for menacing "silhouette" effect.. here's the other side as a more conventional shot.

There's a warbird event coming up in November I'm going to so I hope I can find something downunder unique for folks to see.

Are there any Boomerangs currently flying around down there? (And I mean the aircraft, not the other kind!)

I used to make really great returning boomerangs as a kid.. and not the usual shape either!

If you go to link above the very first image top left of what's going there is a Boomerang they said will be at the Warbirds event..

No idea how many around in general though.. I wouldn't have thought a lot as only 250 made in total by the looks! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAC_Boomerang

Edit: Wiki article says 3 airworthy remaining...
