HAHAHAHA, I know exactly what you mean!

I'd say the answer to your question is that there is no knowledge backing up their decision. They are making uninformed decisions, based on bias / half truths / misconceptions / assumptions, etc. Others are purely price driven, or conned into the purchase by the salesman / friend / relative / peer pressure / persuasive marketing, usually again due to their own lack of knowledge.

Or they simply have no taste...

Saw a dark coloured Conti GT today in Norwood. Saw another one (silver) in North Adelaide on Monday - was probably the same one parked on Hutt Street during the finish of the Classic Adelaide last year.

 

Yes, Blue Chiarro is one of my all time favourite colours. As mentioned a while back, "horse" was the inspiration for the colour choice of my Fathers Testarossa. I also loved blue chiarro on my 328 GTS.
When I restored the 308 there was never any question of it being anything but Pino Verdi. Too much history to change it. This photo is # 21027 on the 1978 Melbourne Motorshow Ferrari stand.

the silver one with [BENTLY] plates can be seen nearly daily around the southeast corner of the CBD. the dark green one is well-known to goober and mhh.

 

I've allways thought your 308 looked great in green, we had Pether's old 365GT4 2+2 and I thought it looked good in green. What ever happened to the old engine from that car?

IMO too many Ferrari's have been changed from good or even great colours to "re-sale red" over the years. When my brother restored his 246 there was the temptation of red or even yellow but he stuck with the original non metallic navy blue and it looks fabulous. (Peter,post a pic.)

I agree; but the market undeniably favours resale red- even today in current models. The Ferraris in our family have been 50% non-red:
275 GTB/4 Red (resprayed by former owner from off white)
308 GTB Pino Verdi
328 GTS Blue Chiaro (now resale red I am told)
Testarossa Blue Chiaro (seems to have vanished now)
355 Challenge- Red
360 Modena- Red
F50 Yellow
360N-GT F1 Rosso Corsa (the REAL stuff too)

My Fathers old 275 GTB/4 now need a repaint (last painted late 70's). What colour would you respray it? Original cream white or something else?

The 365 engine we had was sold to Chris Stevens. He rebuilt it and I think it ended up in his 365 GT4 2 + 2. Not 100% sure on it though.

 

i think that sums up 100% of all ferraris in Aust, have you tried the lambo mkt yet, there are some out there

7:30pm cruising down hutt st south of the cbd was a red F430 hairdresser spec. only saw it for a second, looked to be an older couple in it, but heard it for a good minute off in the distance, only idling in traffic.
