Has anyone here been in or driven a CLS55 AMG?

I did a photoshoot with one today and spent a fair bit of time in the passenger seat and I have to say it did nothing for me. :( Its damn fast for such a heavy car and sounds pretty good but it really didn't excite me at all....

Is there a Benz that is good to drive? Aren't they all D for Drive? Is there a car with a longer, vaguer throttle pedal? Great taxi in Germany apparently.

I thought it looked quite imposing in side profile though the showroom window, but from those pics the rear end just screams AU Falcon!

    CLK GTR
    CLK DTM
    SLR

even my mums C class isnt bad for a family truckster

hahahaha, thats so funny, back when my dad was still alive we went into a Merc Dealership to buy my mum's c class, and he told the dealer that the S class looked like a new falcon (AU at the time), and the dealer was not too happy with that comment.

Thanks.....He hasn't seen them yet, since they were only taken this arvo/evening.

I'll have to get through editing the other 90-100 pics and have them to him (and on my site) by early next week hopefully.

Never driven one myself, and this is actually the first AMG I've been in......my hard earned ~$250K would definately be going elsewhere though.

I think in the case of a Merc its most likely a hard borrowed $250k

Did he even give it? A CLS55 AMG is just as quick as a M5. I posted a 3some review somewhere in this section :p

I know its about as quick as an M5, and yes I did get to experience it at full throttle but it doesn't change my feelings about the car.

I'm driving a 350 at the moment; not a bad rig at all and wont have the depreciation of the 55AMG which incidentally is already old hat-Benz having released the 63AMG.

It has a "fly by wire" throttle BTW.

Driven the E55 AMG which is the same motor, very torquey and fast in a straight line but when you consider it is 5.5 litres and supercharged, it is not that impressive when a 4.9 naturally aspirated M5 developes around 25 more hp. The M5, IMHV is much more fun, better chassis, handling and sweeter engine/gearbox combo.

Your photos are excellent, looking forward to learning some of the finer points of taking good photos.

Haha, this is where Mercedes got smart. They made the back seat of the CLS only hold two thus making it inappropriate as a taxi. Leave that for the E class.

That he was, I think he decided to concentrate on his core bus, moved to Melb and sadly don't see much of him anymore, maybe he can be tempted back for such a high profile case.

Jokes aside, PM me if you want his number, we still talk every so often.

Not much bus. up your way lately but will be sure to give you a hoy if I'm coming up to Brisvegas.

You must give me a call if down here.

    lol :D

Sounds like a passing off issue!

BTW, I remember Scud posting about that guy (I think it's a mate of his in the club). It's a standard Modena fitted with CS rims, the stripe and mirrors, IIRC.
