Question: How can you tell the difference between Elon Musk and an ordinary Tesla owner? Answer: Elon Musk will eventually stop talking about his Tesla.
They will all stop talking when Goverments jack up road taxes on elect cars so they pay their share and its muted to be done via gps tracking. My guess is when you regos due, it be calculated on the mileage done in the last 12 months when they do the brake test in NSW. On top of your electrical bill. Beurocats arnt gong to missout on a multi billin dollar cash cow.
+575 on a related topic, has anyone else noticed that Uber has been completely emasculated by regulation? (in Sydney at least) Since the taxi industry lobbied, the ATO, insurance and licensing rules have slashed the number of Uber drivers. Uber have responded by having fake virtual cars in their app. You click for a ride, the app shows 3 cars nearby and a 4 minute wait, you think OK, then click to book. The little car on your screen wriggles around then comes down the street and appears to drive straight by you. Except, there is no car. Then the app shows a different car, now also 4 minutes away. At busy times it seems to be the 3rd car is real, all this done to cover up a 15 minute wait, which most users wouldn't accept if it was apparent from the outset. This has happened to me the last 4 times I've tried to book in the Sydney CBD, I've given up trying and just hail a cab, which is exactly what the politicians wanted. Fun question, who owns the largest number of taxi plates in NSW outside of Cabcharge? Answer: former politicians.
I think it's quite disgraceful that Uber was allowed to destroy the Taxi industry. Taxis needed a shake up, that's for sure, but considering what is charged for a Taxi licence, they should have been offered some protection.
Absolutely. They needed something done, but destroying the industry, while make UBER rich, was not the way to do it. Licence’s worth $500k are now worth $100k - if you can sell them. Considering the government sold licences at the market rate, or even auctioned them, they should have bought them back as compensation for deregulating the industry. They regulated the F$$K out of it, with flag falls, klm rates etc. they have a lot to answer for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Are we sure the drop in Uber drivers isn't because people were making so little they just decided it wasn't worthwhile? If the Uber model was truly sustainable, smart taxi drivers would just have moved to Uber. The tax loss on taxi licenses is probably making some people money... Years ago there was talk of replacing the old tax system with a 'transaction tax' - a very small amount (I can't honestly remember if it was 1% or 1c ) for every transaction made in the country. With the electronic takeover of transactions, I wonder if this will come back to the table. Maybe wait until cash is completely defunct?
Are we sure the drop in Uber drivers isn't because people were making so little they just decided it wasn't worthwhile? Well they aren't making it ^^^^^^ now due to Ian's comments/arguement,I suspect.
I'm not so sure... there were lots of complaints right from the start about how little the drivers were making.

I’ve not met an UBER driver yet that says he does well out of it. Every one I’ve asked says they have to work enormous hours to make it worth while, but it still isn’t better than a 40 hour/week job. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm fairly sure the devaluation of taxi licenses will create some pretty big carryforward tax writeoffs that some people will use to advantage. Most taxi licenses aren't owned by 'little' people. Losing money is losing money, but some people manage it.
This has to be a joke, and i don't get it? https://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/brisbanes-alleged-poo-jogger-resigns-from-corporate-role/news-story/54b10461c8d14018bdd7ffd05ab9e43d?utm_source=CourierMail&utm_content=SocialFlow&utm_medium=Twitter&utm_campaign=EditorialSF
