A lot of good Texas BBQ in the area. Franklin's in Austin is usually rated very high on BBQ rankings. In addition, a really popular BBQ place in Driftwood is called The Salt Lick. South of the track on toll road 130 is the town of Lockhart which has several popular BBQ spots. In Lockhart, when we have big family gatherings, most like to go to Kreuz Market. If you have enough time, one of my personal favorites is called Burnt Bean in Sequin. Like Franklin BBQ in Austin, the Burnt Bean gets busy fast, and only have a limited amount of meat every day. So if you don't get there early enough, they usually sell out.

I haven't gone to the race in a couple of years, but if driving in, I would come in from the South side of toll road 130 and take Maha Loop or Von Quintus Road and follow it to Burklund Farms Road. Burklund Farms Road leads to FM 812 where the track is located. There is usually a police officer at the intersection directing traffic. This route lets you bypass all the traffic attempting access to the track via the obvious routes.

Good luck and have fun. One other hint that I found, there are a ton of temporary bathrooms around the track, but there is a nice permanent one at turn one that people don't seem to realize is there. There is one member on this site known as BigTex, he worked the track several years in a row, and could give you some good tips.

In terms of access to drivers, there have been meet and greet driver sessions, but they get really crowded. One year, my wife and I took our adult daughters to the race, and they decided to go to Fernando Alonso meet and greet. Couldn't even get close.
