Hey, don't be a doubting Thomas, Simon. It's only first week in December. I am SURE that in the next 3 weeks, they will have construction equipment brought in, have all the permits/approvals in place, have trailers for crews on site, have the area fenced in and be "moving dirt". Yeah, that's nooooo problem. Christmas you say? Pffft, nooooo problem.
I think they are getting real close on the permitting....expect to see bulldozers running three wide, into Turn One....
Haven't made it out there yet. But here's the latest: http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/news/2010/12/10/county-to-debate-6m-for-formula-one.html More debates on the road construction.
Well there were two important developments in that article; the city says there are only minor issues that need to be addressed and the county has approved $13.5m in water improvements for the area. This thing is moving forward Kevin
That sounds all promising. The question is more: Is it moving at a fast enough speed to make the 2012 target? Based on their original timeline it isn't. Then again this is the good old of USA where people actually work overtime given enough $. Keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath.
Indeed. I never quite understood why it would take so long to build a track. It is basically a short street with some garages.
I wonder if they have an idea from Bernie when it will take place on the calendar? They have to have some idea to factor into their construction schedule....where would it fit on the current calendar?
That's an easy one: Right next to the Canadian GP. Turkey will get replaced by the USGP. So assuming they play by the book with the FIA inspection time, they really have now just about one year left to build this track.
Those dates both make sense....brazil gives them more time though; also the weather in the fall in Texas would be much nicer than June....
