Who has one and is it as much fun as it looks? I have been wanting an original Mini...right hand drive and all...just to play around with. There is a guy near Atlanta that buys them from England and brings them to Georgia to resale. I am going to look at a few he just got in which he has for sale. What's the ups and downs on these cars and what should I be on the lookout for?

The later/newer ones are either grey market and/or very expensive. Make sure you do a full history search and check to see if its a genuine car.

Best of luck, feel free to ask any questions. I looked into buying one recently but figured i wouldn't make a very good commuter to and from college on the highway :D One day...

The ones I will look at are all from the mid 1960s at www.minifarm.eu

Wow, does this guy have a website, or can you shoot me a pm with his address/phone #? I would love to go over there and check them out. I've wanted one for a while now.

    hi there...

i own a 73 mini, and it's a very very nice car to own..it's fun to drive,it's mechanicals are extremelly basic...main concerns? always try to buy a non modified mini, check to see if the engine is the original one...here in Europe you have a lot of them running on bigger engines, and that spoils the reliability...first buy a origginal one...if you like it then buy a modded one...

    here's mine...

The most smiles I've ever had driving was in my old mini.
You could get 2 suitcases in the boot and 4 big adults front and back. This tended to destroy the fun handling of the car though ;)

Easy to work on, although parts were surprisingly expensive for a mass produced small car. Rust was always the biggest problem.

I remember coming home from university to resurrect my mini from an extended spell in the garage. I'd left the hand brake on which had seized and the inside of the drums had rusted somewhat. I (rather foolishly, looking back now) took it onto a long deserted road up to 70mph, checked nothing was behind me and stood on the brake pedal. Got rid of the rust but needed a new set of pads after that.

There was also a very large roundabout close to where I lived. I use to take the car around that 4 or 5 times in second gear at full throttle. I only stopped when I got dizzy. Reckless youth :)

Only downside, long journeys on the highway are very tiring.

    Great cars

I had a 70 Mini. I shoulda kept it, I posted a stupid add & a week later it was gone. I thought about getting another. Mine was bored out to 1340 cc with a modded head, carb , exhaust, and of course 10 inch mini lites. It was one of the funnest cars I have ever had. The handling is legendary.

Yep, those guys are pretty reputable. As someone else said, rust is a huge problem with these cars
