Unfortunately, I only counted 4 wins in that timeframe, and only one was from a guy not named Schumacher.

In all these posts, you are the only one who even seems to realize that there is a guy racing who has won the last 4 WDCs.

Is everybody writing off Kid Index?

I know what they have said about the car, but nobody . . . nobody . . . Bueller? Bueller?

I'm guessing he doesn't and blames the car or the team for it.

His spin and crash in testing showed his nature. He's not one to admit mistakes too quickly.

The car is not up to par. Given what we've seen and the complaints coming from Red Bull themselves, there is no reason to expect them to finish the race, much less win.

Things could change dramatically over a couple of weeks in theory, but since they hadn't since the first test in January, I think everyone is on the right track with their expectations. Vettel in a slower car that overheats is a LOT different than Vettel in the best car on the grid.

MS won 7 championships, but put him in that Merc when the car was sub par, and nothing!

With the team principle himself publicly stating they cannot at the moment compete with any Mercedes powered car, it would be foolish to even rank Sebastian Vettel as even finishing the first few races let alone finishing in the top 10. Quote me later.

Seb is a wonderful driver, but he is no better than some others: Alonso, Hamilton, and possibly Kimi and Rosberg. Seb has had a stupendously dominant car which Red Bull continued to push through the end of 2013 so they could break or match records full well knowing Renault wasn't going to be ready for 2014. Red Bull knew in late 2013 that 2014 was going to be a wash of a year. The proof is not just in their substantially poor running, butit also lies in the fact that RB10 was never even assembled until Jerez, the day before testing. RB10 was never run on a dyno, electrical compenents never tested altogether with cooling, nothing! Red Bull were greedy and wanted records in 2013 full well knowing this was their last chance to ever get them as they knew they were hosed, plain and simple.

An even more simple and obvious fact here is that Sebastian Vettel may never ever see a championship winning capable car ever again. Alonso is every bit as good as Vettel and he will probably never see a championship ever again, but he has certainly been ludicrously deserving of one these past few years where he drove these hulks he's had to drive to podiums and wins. Seb has never done that, unless a person is foolish enough to call Monza in the rain such a circumstance. Monza is not Spain or Monaco in the rain folks, it's Monza, where lots can happen as it's a simple circuit which relies on nothing that the rest of the tracks on the calendar rely upon.

I agree with what the press has reported, but Vettel is a good driver, and RB has enormous resources. I think they will be competitive.

(But I would laugh if they are not.)

True, but Schuey had flashes of brilliance. Vettel will have them too.

You know, the child who insists on sticking his index finger in the air after every race.

Yes, his car was dominant, but how do you explain the huge gap back to Weber--who I though was a great driver?

Kid Index can get 11 tenths out of a car, and he is good for a half a second a lap over the baseline car (as driven by someone else). Believe me when I tell you, I want ANYONE else to win besides KI, but I respect his ability.

Only a fool wouldn't respect his ability.
    And that of RB.

All last year there were cries of "but what can he do in a second rate car?". Now we'll see.

I think it's more likely than a Renault powered car winning the race.

Of course, with the new technology on display this weekend, it's possible that NOBODY else finishes and Vettel somehow manages his car to the flag.

Anything's possible...but RB winning is not probable at this point.

Webber was extremely sloppy his last two years, he was not the same driver he was when he was teammates the first year with Seb, when that year's WDC should have been Webber's had it not been for certain idiotic circumstances directly caused by Seb. Seb won his first WDC completely by default. After that first season with Seb it seemed like Webber ceased caring and drove very imprecise, probably because he knew Seb would be protected forever once he wrapped up that title.

Alonso, Lewis, Rosberg, these guys are all good for a half a second in a car vs anyone else.

I'm not bashing the guy, he's brilliant, but he's been a product of his car. He's never won a real race at a real circuit in a wheelbarrow like all the greats have. Call it a right of passage to Schumacher/Senna levels of greatness Seb has yet to do. Winning at Monza in the rain just doesn't impress me like a rainy Monaco in an utter PILE or Spain in an undrivable Ferrari, in the wet.

This may be the new front nose we see this weekend as revealed in a 3d rendering in this video [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96cHD7H1ZEw]F1 2014 - Mercedes AMG - V6 turbo 3D animation (PU106A Hybrid Power Unit) - YouTube[/ame]. They are going for something which interacts with the wing less is everyone's best estimate.

His win in Monza in a Toro Rosso in the rain was indicative of his talent. I am sure this season will show us what he can or can not do in a second rung (for now) car. I am looking forward with interest.

Just when you think wing design can't get more torturous.

Of course some one will have his clipped off on turn one and proceed seemingly unaffected.

No in case of accident, it will merely be a case of 2 cars mating together. :)

    Very good observation.

Remember when Schuey was at Benetton and his car got stuck in 5th gear. He drove like a madman. Vettel has not done anything close to that yet.
