I was looking on the Speed website to see when the Australian GP will be shown, and the listing is for Sunday afternoon at 1:30 eastern. The Practice and Qualifying are being shown live on their respective nights at 11:00pm. Someone please tell me I'm either reading something incorrectly or that it's just an error on the website. That'd be silly if they didn't show the race live.

I checked the website also, apparently they are airing it at 1:30 PM Eastern, because you know the 12:00 AM slot is very popular at Speed
You might be interested to know that Speed has the race listed as HD

The weird part is that the schedule lists practice at the bottom of thursday at 11 or 11:30 pm, qualifying at the bottom of friday at 11 pm, and the race at the *top* of saturday at 12:00 am.

Apparently the race immediately follows qualifying. ;)

Speed's webslight apparently no longer supports non java browsers like lynx. Or wget. So much for being able to fetch the schedule each month.

Why do all these channels feel they need to *hide* their program schedule?

If there's something I'd like to see, and they won't tell me about it, and I don't watch it, doesn't that hurt advertising?

Why do they spend their own air time "promoting" a show, but won't let you download the schedule so you might remember to watch it?

Is insanity just normal business practice, these days?

And don't give me a song and dance about "subscribing" to the web site. If I'm fiddling around with the darned computer, I'm not watching TV.
If the computer could fetch the schedule for me, I could be doing something else ... like watching the channel (and the ads).

Or is it that the channels out-source their web pages to people whose own income comes from selling subscription info to spam^H^H^H^Hnet advertisers, and who don't give a dang about their customers' broadcast advertising?

Agreed. WAY too busy. I hate having to "burrow" or drill-down to get the information I want.

Yea the website doesn't help much. I can't imagine they'd show practice and qualy live but not the race. Just seems a bit odd. Especially because there's nothing important in the way at that time.

    Speed's webslight is useless.

According to DirecTV's schedule, practice will be at 11pm-12:30am(ET) Thu/Fri, Qualifying at 11pm-12:30am Fri/Sat, and the race will be on at midnite-2:30am Sat/Sun. (Replay 1:30pm-4:00pm ET Sun).

Speed's web schedule shows the midnite race coverage a day earlier, a half hour into qualifying.

What? You're suprised that Fox didn't get competent people to run the web page? These are the people who run WWF on SciFi channel, and thought that a remake of "Bionic Woman" was a good idea. Getting Elly-May's brother-in-law to do their internet presence probably seemed like a good idea, too. ;) (Them data base thangs are wicked coomplikated.)

I thought the meek were going to inherit the earth. It looks like the stupid are the front-runners, now.

F1 "bernievision" is from the local national feeds. So most will be a tad higher resolution than the old NTSC standard, but not "real" HD.

But the video feed from the satellite box was always higher res than when they filtered some of the races through the local Fox station first.

(The most appropriate aspect of browsing Speed's new webslight: firefox (Fire Fox). :p)

The "new and improved" SpeedTV website is totally hosed. It's as if they hired the webmaster equivalent of Ben Bernanke (someone who is full of himself and totally clueless about what he should be doing).

I checked my guide on DirecTV, and it shows the F1 coverage without the "HD" next the name. Usually all HD broadcasts have this "HD" next to them. And yes, this was on SpeedHD. Maybe we're just getting the widescreen 480P coverage. Bummer.

It's definitely not going to be native HD, since Bernie's lackies that shoot the actual races aren't using HD gear to shoot it. PAL is around 525 lines and NTSC is around 480 lines... I don't know what the native resolution on the cameras is that Bernie uses but probably at least 525 lines. I bet it will get sent to Speed at 480 or Speed will convert it to 480 for rebroadcast over the air. No way is it going to be 720 or 1080.

But on the plus side it should still look better than the previous crap - hopefully at least.

I think they may shoot in HD, but they don't broadcast in HD. There is both a 16x9 and 4x3 feed for the networks to choose from. It has seemed in the past that Speed used the 16x9 feed but cut the edges rather than letterbox it (I've noticed the announcers discussing things like the car mirrors which are clearly off screen). Speed HD will most likely upscale this 16x9 feed to HD resolution. I wont know though since Ive got COX cable not satellite.
