He was gutless - he should have rolled Howard. Howard was stale and should have retired, like he agreed to do. When he broke the agreement, Costello should have called a spill.
Y'all gotta remember Hewson lost to Keating whist trying the GST on us. The thing was that Aussies were soooo stupid not to have voted HIS GST in and instead we got the pigs ear of what we have now.......and let us not forget the wonderful clock collectors years in power as a result. Y'all should look up Hewson's version and you'll find the biggest difference was that fuel WAS NOT GOING TO BE INCLUDED. Work that out, particularly for anyone in the bush.
Keating/Hawke , same deal Politics is a disgrace in the last 15 years, the Prime Minister room has a revolving door leading to it ...... use to be the LAB party had the Ides of March syndrome for their leaders and now the LIBS are doing it too, any wonder the electorate is disillusioned with any govt
Yep the electorate had the choice between a doctor of economics and a self-made millionaire, and a political blow-hard that never had a real job. People are stupid.
You are quite right (as my study of Australian politics has told me). The Hewson situation is an interesting one. He really should have won that election. Perhaps it's the first case of the media really influencing a result, as it all came down to that idiotic price of bread / cakes question. However, we may have dodged a bullet by not electing him...
......and cooked chook v/s uncooked! It was unfortunately,as Pat has sort of intimated,a proper intelligent bloke going against a street fighter. The street fighter had bigger ammo
Correct. And my disappointment with Hewson is in the way he's done a bit of a Fraser by turning into a bit of a lefty soft-cock in his later years.
