Hi I am new to this forum. I have a 1967 330gts . It is missing the authentic ?black plastic gear shift knob and sunvisors. Where can I get them ? Appreciate any info.
http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/steeringwheels.htm I don't know how universal the 60's knobs were, but my guess is the first knob shown would fit your car and be "correct" as long as the threads matched. My 330 2+2 came with a similar original standard black plastic knob with finger grooves, which I have since stored and replaced with a plain round 60's-racing style billet aluminum knob. If you find out where to get sunvisors, please post...I need new ones and haven't had any luck finding them.
I've not researched this at all, but seems like "Re-Originals" in Houston (713-849-2400) would have the sunvisors, also might try 800-222-9577 (World Upholstery and Trim). Might post the forum with the results of your fact finding. steve
Sunvisors for 275/330/365GTS are black on both sides, with velcro on the end and head seamed filled with foam that deteriorated. They turn into vinyl pancakes, most installed on the cars need restoration. This part is unique to these convertible cars. I have had one set in 20 years of collecting parts. Stand in line with the others that are looking, a known long lead item. The sunvisors will need to be manufactured, and you need not go to Italy to have them made.
I need a set for myself - They look simple enough to make. Perhaps we should run off a lot of 5? Do 5% of the 330 GTS's out there need them?
Tom...is that black vinyl? Mine on 330 2+2 match your description; the right side one has a small vanity mirror. Both are filled with a foam that has disintegrated to literal powder, in good shape otherwise. I have called everywhere and can't find replacements...I'm going to take a closer look and see if existing ones are restorable....problem is the vinyl is sealed.
Mine were sealed but apparently one sprang a pinhole leak and we had an unpleasant surprise. Does anyone know the original shape (i.e. how thick are they supposed to be) and the desnsity? would cleaning them out then injecting some sort of structural foam work? Regards, Art S.
Same thing happens with mine...the powdery disintegrated foam leaks out around the vanity mirror and falls in the passenger's lap when turned down. I was also thinking about canned foam but controlling the shape would be hard. Maybe just carefully cut an inconspicuous slit and insert a new piece of foam cut to size and reseam the slit somehow?
Typical Italian disease... Look at the dashtop in my (tatty!) Fiat 2300S Coupe... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nope, make a jig out of two pieces of flat material like sheet metal spaced the correct thickness with a span wouldn't be difficult, but is it the correct type of faom? Space occupying foam is typically not as resilient as the closed cell polyUrethane foam that is spongey.
Waaaay too old for kids, been snortin that foam like a hog Scott, I'm not exactly understanding what you're proposing.
"Waaaay too old for kids, been snortin that foam like a hog" - - New male birth control method!!! Scott, think of the outer material of the visor as a balloon. Place the visor/balloon between two boards 1 inch (or whatever the correct thickness is) apart and inflate it with the spray foam. As long as you control the thickness, the other profiles will be controlled by the shape of the visor/balloon. The question remains, what would be the correct material to spray in? We should figure this out before someone sacrifices their visor for the cause. Regards, Art S.
Art...now it makes sense...a little slow here. As far as foam is concerned, I've used that "Great Stuff" canned insulation foam on minor home projects. It dries light and stiff; I don't have any idea how flexible or crackproof it would be. All I can guess about foam is that it would be a one-shot proposition. Best thing to do would be to buy some cheap visors at an auto parts place and experiment. I'm going to the art/craft store on thurs, maybe they'll have a foam. Are your visors black vinyl as well?
i had the foam redone on mine and resealed and it seemed to work well. i believe they steamed it open and filled it. it was about five years ago
dry4re, I'm interested too. Scott, No, mine are the same color as my headliner - off white. Regards, Art S.
Scott, If you've ever used GREAT STUFF, have you let it dry and then handled it? The shape can deform if you push/poke it hard. I believe you'd want something more like an open cell foam. The other Scott in this thread
I PM'ed you and you responded but my message box was full so I didn't recieve the message. I've cleared it out, could you please re-send or email me at: [email protected] Thank you. Sincerely, Scott
i'll be at the mechanic tomorrow and ask him if he remembered who did it and how. It was done locally in phoenix, that much i remember. mine were black, which is the interior color. They were original, had gotten to where there were like air pockets and very spongy. When finished they were firm and felt like new.
Mike Dunn at madenterprise.com will have an exact replica shift knob for your 330GTS. They look beautiful. He used the original one on my 330GTS as a master, after polishing it.
