yes windshields same methods exactly .. I did the back window which was the same glass as the front back then 50 years ago . Tempered but no laminated like new stuff. He indicated all glass is different depending on its maker and period . He does a small test area to see if he can proceed at all . I assume then most importantly automotive glass is very tough .He using a digital temperature gauge throughout the entire process to ensure it never rises too rapidly beyond 130f and then it cools slowly as well . I don't have before and after pics but those who know me know I have high standards when it comes to my restorations .the one thing he wont do is get close to the original makers mark and as a result you may have some imperfections left close to the mark if they were there in the first place . Original E type headlamp glass covers are hard to find so no choice to polish if you want nice originals . The result was way better than I had hoped for . I never thought the pitting would be gone without distortion but it is now. He's not inexpensive but if you want cheap buy a fiat Gary Espada 8394 EtypeFHC 887465
I too just had glass on the Dino polished by Rick including the complex curve rear piece and the results are excellent. That said it is important to realize going in that the costs associated with this work will often easily eclipse the price of a new piece of glass. It is very labor intensive which accounts for the high price. Just the rear glass took over 30 hours to do! Polishing glass is nothing like polishing paint. Gary has already touched upon the importance of keeping the temperature correct but another issue is in the process itself. When glass gets a scratch the only way to remove it is to polish the WHOLE SURFACE down to the level of the scratch. Otherwise you get optical distortion. Also glass is weird in that it actually shows a scratch more when you polish it because you are sharpening the edges of the scratch making it catch more light. It is not until the scratch is totally gone that it disappears. This differs from paint as a scratch gets less visible with polishing. Glass polishing is a great way to preserve an original piece of glass but it is important to know going in what is involved. I am very happy with my results and was able to preserve my original piece of glass.
so dos this mean your car is now done and soon on its way to Florida?????? Gary Espada 8394 EtypeFHC 887465
