Many consider the Porsche PDK transmission to be the benchmark for dual clutch transmissions in the industry. The PDK transmission is so good in my GT3 that I don't even use the paddles. Can you do the same in the 488? In race mode?

    Nope.

Porsche has an aggressive auto mode that can be used effectively on track and also while driving spiritedly on roads. The ferrari auto mode is purely economy driven. It runs to 7th as fast as possible.

Certainly works great in auto and race on track, esp if you want to focus on learning.

Exactly. I never use auto on Speciale but I did try it on fast roads once - it changes down exactly as i would (90% anyway) and works really well. Does not look for 7th unless you're pootling along. Use auto often in my FF and it works pretty well. Not as good as a torque converter, but then a torque converter can't do 8k rpm with spine tingling sound and ultra fast changes on demand can it?

The 458 'auto' mode is like Porsche's 'normal' mode even when in 'race'.
You will be in 7th gear at 40 mph around town in any mode.
I can only do that in my Turbo S in 'normal', and even then sometimes it's a little difficult.

458 spider. I hate auto mode.

My Audi RS5 dct performs much like l would shift in manual mode. Fcar is infected with fuel saving nannies in auto. Manual works for me.

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I have learned, if you are in auto with the manettino set to race (e.g., for a track day), it will rev to red line for each auto shift and aggressively downshift as if you were using the paddles.

Just as a test I did this for one lap and it was fantastic. The other 30+ I used the paddles.
My associate used auto and race all day and was quicker.

I always used the manual mode in my 991 GT3. No matter the road or track. I just the process of making the shift decision myself and being involved. Just I like to shift totally manual transmissions. In my 430 spider with the F1 I never used the auto mode and you actually need to coordinate the throttle and the shifting to smooth it out if so desired. My friends 458 spider and my cousins 16M the same thing- I only shifted myself. My wife likes to drive the GT3 and puts in auto mode- drives me nuts!!!!
