Hi guys, this isn't a ferrari, but I am sure someone on here can help. My niece has an automatic Ford. It was driving fine, then last night after she parked, she went out to start the car. The car starts and "runs fine", however it won't shift at all. the Automatic Shifter will move from Park to Drive and through reverse, however NOTHING happens the car doesn't move at all. The shifter also feels a little more "loose" or easier to move than it did before. Of course I checked Transision fluid, and it's fine. Any ideas a all?
    thanks

First thing I would check is the shifter cable

    Thanks Zan,
Is that easy to do? All of my cars are manual trans, I've never had an auto. If I take off the whole center console piece and expose the guts of the shifter will I be able to see it from there, or is this something that has to be checked on the underbelly of the car?

I would think it would be easier to check from the bottom. Chock wheels, jack up & use jack stands then have someone move shifter & see if it moves lever on transmission. If this is a front wheel drive car u can just open hood & check for lever movement.

    Thanks billy,
It is a FWD......so I'll do that soon, I'll start it up and move the shifter back and forth....I should see a lever moving right? Just look near/at the trans??

You don't have to start the car. It's just a cable or rod. Either it moves when you move the shifter or it doesn't. If it doesn't, then reconnect it or repair/replace it.
