Maybe the best, Tina and Mark have been doing this for twenty years now and have this so dialed in. This is our second tour, the first was to Monaco and the GP. I would highly encourage anyone who has an interest in seeing parts of Europe this way to consider it.

This is the tour we are on:

AB is the best car tour we have done, the small group is made of amazing people and outstanding roads, hotels and food. Today we depart from The Chedi in Andermatt to Milano, and the vip suite for Mona. I’ll see if I can document this along the way just to provide a glimpse. And although we are on Ferrarichat, the Porsches provided provide an excellent driving experience.

I will say that if you have never driven he Autobahn, this is one way to do it. It took a minute to get use to the speeds you are able to achieve with no fear of tickets, but it’s nice to hit 180 mph and settle in around 140 for parts of the trip. You really do have to be careful with Traffic however, and it is a new experience to be passing people on your right, and have a concrete wall on your left. The drivers in Euope are infinitely better than in the US, and the trucks all stay in the right lane. There is nothing like seeing a slow down, with all Trucks in the right lane as you move along due to traffic, construction or accident.

    Pictures to follow.

Ok, been a little slow here as we are traveling and having fun, but let me start from the beginning. This is our second trip with Autobahn Adventures, the first being the Monaco GP, a trip that actually introduced us to cruising. The last part of the trip was a cruise on Azamara Cruise line from Barcelona to Monaco. It was incredible. While in Monaco we saw a boat in the harbor that turned out to be Ponant, and since that time we have done four more cruises. At the end of this trip we will do Silver Seas new boat Venice to Athens.

Anyway, the way Autobahn works, you pick your car on the second day in the order of your sign up. As we were first, we chose the 4S Carrara pictured. So glad we did as it is raining as we prepare to depart Le Fay resort for the Interalpen Hotel Tyrol.

The first night is in Wiesbaden, then on to the Porsche museum, and onwards to Andermatt Switzerland where we visited Lucern and drove the Swiss passes. The Chedi was simply amazing as are most of our hotels.

Trucks actually do overtake and come out, often into the middle lane of three, what seems unexpected.
But unknowingly typically two things happened: this sign or, Image Unavailable, Please Login this Image Unavailable, Please Login ended the no overtaking zone. Look for them.

The trucks come out and it seems random. They actually check if the fast lane is free for you to change over from middle to left. But it helps if you alert yourself by looking for above signs and checking your rear mirrors every 3 seconds! There is always somebody faster than you.

    Drive safely!

Day two involves a fun trip to the Porsche museum which is definitely worth going to see. We all know about Porsche’s place in motor sports, and many of the great race cars are there, and of course, the 911 from the very beginning. Then on to the Autobahn with fast as you dare, a stop in Lucerne, and on to The Chedi in Andermatt.

The Autobahn at first felt insane. I don’t typically drive that fast anymore, and never drive like you can here. But the interesting thing is you get use to it. The difficulty is in what the other person will or may do and the traffic. We hit 280 once so far, but we do have a return trip after Tyrol. But cruising at 225 to 250 was effortless after getting use to it. Again, the problem I see is traffic and trusting that the person in the lane next to you that you are passing at those speeds will not move over in front of you. Here are a few interesting pictures…

As this is your second trip, what do you estimate the additional costs to be for food, drink, etc?

Hi there, everything but lunch his included, but we often skipped lunch as the hotel brunches were vast in options and very good. ‘The only thing I did not really like an about dinners as with groups they were long affairs, usually three or four courses. All restaurants were really top drawer. And we did occasionally chose to have a lunch on our own. You of course are free to participate in these or not.

As for the people, I will say the quality of people is very much top tier. Most are business owners, CEOs or very high level executives, and of course we don’t care what people do or try to compare, but it is interesting. For instance, one is the worlds largest car wholesaler, moving about 1,000 cars a week, one produced 1.3 million chickens to market every week, another leads Starbucks world wide brands and marketing, and so on. At the core, they are car people like we are, and really, really nice people. No arrogant jerks, although they are Porsche people lol.

I’d highly recommend you put this on your list, and consider Monte Carlo next year. We got very lucky to see what we did at Monza…..

Thanks for the details. We have a trip planned to the Alps next year but may substitute one of these trips as we will be first-timers to Europe and would prefer some else d most of the planning. Thanks again.
