Sorry to disappoint, Walter. I don't know the earlier cars and the thing seemed to have some new style chassis and suspension work. So I did not know what to make of it.
well.....its a Maserati Tipo 60 or 61, one of the most famous Maserati of all time that got the nickname "The Birdcage"....! Sorry- but someone who cares about Maserati should now this....
Hi Guys, The Chassis numbers of 2 of the 3 Maserati Road Cars @ Autobella are Sebring AM 101 - 02007 - Red sold new in England. Ghibli - AM 115 - 344 - 1968 4.7 L Manual Coupe - Red sold new in Venice. Regards, David Z.
Walter, You seem to know the history of the cars. But you do not seem to know the technical details. The technology is what engages me. For example, could you tell me when the practice of drilling lightening holes on chassis gusset plates started? I thought that was a more recent innovation. Also, on first look, something about the shock absorbers seemed too new for a car of that era. On second look, they might be okay. I'm not sure from the photo. Still, you are right that I should have recognized the Birdcage from the style of chassis fabrication. But really -- since I can't afford one -- I never paid attention enough to know it had a four cylinder engine. (I had always assumed inline six). I will heretofore address you as "der Historiker", and I will appreciate your kindly addressing me as "the Engineer". Carmine P.S.: Note also, while I believe that you spent a good portion your life photographing hot babes, I've spent a good deal of mine raising a family, and am only these past few years getting back into cars as a hobby. P.P.S.: For my next book purchase I had intended to buy your A6GG Zagato book. However, now that you have attempted to publicly humiliate me I shall not. Instead I shall buy Mr. Oosthoek's book on the Tipo 60 and 61 front-engined Birdcages.
The Oosthoek book about the T60/61-Birdcage is excellent. It should not be missed in the library of the true Maserati enthusiast.....
Poor shot as i was more interested in the FE Tipo is 61 can't read the rest Image Unavailable, Please Login
