The porsche club is putting on a autocross on sunday 11/28/07 and was wondering if anyone has ran one in a 355? I have never done one and dont know what it involves, or will the wide body of the 355 be a problem. Also, I am doing it for fun so I dont care if I make a fool of myself (seems to happen more and more as I get older!!) I have a 91 c4 cab modified and 84 targa which might be better for the event, but the organizer said "BRING THE FERRARI!!" Any thoughts??
2nd gear driving gets boring. But if you want to try it out, go ahead. The F355 isn't that wide, it won't be a problem. Might actually understeer in some turns, depending on the layout.
great, what the heck I will try it. The car sounds good in second gear and at least can burn some carbon off the engine. oh, the event is 10/28/07 and anyone who is a PCA member can go. $45 bucks and can sign up at the event. Weather looks to be good even for the drop tops!
The PCA autocross was a blast! One Black 328 and one Black 355 did turned a few Porsche heads! Great seeing you there Brent -sorry I didn't see your post before the event. Got a few shots I thought you'd like (the white 930 was my brother). mike Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Times? Well, lets just say that some of the other cars were a bit better set up for track events. Tires, suspension, and seat time all equal quicker times. For me it's just great getting the car on the track once in a while and getting a little more driving experience (and beating my buddies times). The 328's stability and handling pleasantly surprises me time and time again. The 328 did beat my friend's Exige and my brother's 930 (thanks to him hitting a cone).
Mike, Maybe you could get the Exige owner to pay you for driving lessons. Sounds like he could use some! Dave
Wow, what a great time. Mike thanks for the pics. The P cars didnt give us the best reception in good fun. The comment about letting the ferraris burn if the catch on fire during the prep talk was a little odd. hehe Mike and me gave times 4 secs off the cars totally set up for the event so I think we did ok for stock cars and being my first event. I would love to set one up for the ferrari club and will contact the PCA about costs and see if we could get enough people. The best car came in at 56 secs or so and the cars set up for the event were around 66 secs and me and Mike came in at 70 with no cones so dont know if thats good or what, but didnt matter. What a blast!!! I was REALLY surprised how well the 355 did and Mikes 328 could hold its own against almost all the cars there. I guess driving skill has alot to do with times. Some of the old 911sc were awesome on the course.
Well, thanks but the Exige is new to the owner. He runs formula Vee's and is a pretty good driver in a car he's used to. (Still -always fun beating your buddy in a 20 year older/heavier car).
Looks like those are good times for stock cars. Some of those Porsches that are set up for the autocrosses are tremendously fast!
Brent, Thanks for you kindness in letting me "view" your car. It was the highlight of my week. Awesome car! As a driver of another non-Porsche car, I can relate to your comments. Mark Franklin
Sure, no problem Mark. Your car was also a great time to drive (wish I could have taken it the course!). You had a LARGE smile on your face when you got over 7k RPM and the car started to scream. Please feel free to ask here about your future 355 purchase and you will be amazed at all the great advice and helpful people here in Denver and the site to help you out. I know I have personally checked out two cars for other people from out of state who wanted someone unbiased to check them out. Brent
